 A healthy man normally does about 20 miles a day. What would an
 elderly person or child do, over blown up roads, in the Middle
 East, in late July?

 To a great extent, died. Remember, the Israelis were not sitting
 there waiting for the exodus, and they were bombing roads and
 bridges.

 Not for many miles in late July in Lebanon. Not without food or
 water, not while the roads and bridges are being bombed.

 How long ago? How many Israelis are not evacuating?

 They had no reason to expect the shelling and bombing would go
 on as long as it did. Once it let up they could seek releif.
