I know;-)
I might be a little older than you are and from another place, there are
many ties. As a retired navy cdr, I know you people far from home at sea
and how you think and work 24hrs/day, 7 days/week with a big team were the
team members cannot ignore the other team members. You are constant working
with people and capital sophisticated equipment. You talk with the
crewmwmbwrs at their worksite (technicians doing repairs at night), in your
cabin, at the department office, in the workshop, in the CPO mess, in the
PO mess and in other places. You know your people and how it is with their
family at home.
Not a "9to5" job ;-)
And I know the US Navy, and their people, including their family.
Altogether I spend a few months in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and its
surroundings. I met many in the officers clubs, as wel in the CPO clubs,
even in Little Kreek;-)
Not to forget visiting our "host ship" and vice versa while lying at the
piers. But most times our hosts did visit our ship. You know why? We have
a bar in our messes, so we could talk more relaxed;-)

In fact we have to be all-round...
