Hello Ward.
04 Oct 06 13:33, you wrote to me:

WD> Indeed it doesn't matter. You certainly have not missed that when I
WD> mention I called Bob Seaborn to solve a technical issue, she
WD> interpretes that I called an RC. And when I write a netmail to Brenda
WD> Donovan and others she says that I send netmails to RC's.
I'm just guessing here but I think that her concerns (If they
are even concerns) about you contacting RC's is based on you wanting
her replaced as Z1C not because of what she did here but because of your
conflicts with her over Malcolm Miles and you wanting Malcolm to be
replaced as IC. That and your frustration at being voted out of that
position in the past.
WD> Therefore, Jeff, when she did what she did ... she did it as a ZC.
WD> Can't have it both ways, you know.
Then I fear so did you. It would appear that what is happening here
has really little to do with Fidonews then. Just two ZC's trying to have
their way with each other.

WD> That is so incredibly irrelevant. The FNEWSN39.ZIP archive was created
WD> in Fidonet, released in Fidonet, Janis received it in Fidonet. There
WD> was nothing for her to gate into because it already was there.
You miss the point Ward. She as Filegate admin refused to distribute
the Fidonews issue based on a violation of Filegate policy. The action
was a Filegate action. Not a Fidonet action. The fact that she is also
a ZC is irrelevant. She could just as well have been just a regular node.
The action would still just be a Filegate action.

WD> Did she announce she would removed that particular Fidonews-issue from
WD> distribution or did she announce she would include a dudfile and
WD> re-hatch the bundle?
WD> If the former, she wouldn't have sentout anything at all. The latter
WD> did not occur because nobody caught the dudfile until Mark Lewis
WD> discovered the anomaly after more than a week. When he raised the item
WD> nobody could answer the "why" and "how" question. Then when I was
WD> unable to untangle it, suddenly all is OK?
No... All is not ok. I don't think things wer handled as well as they
could have been. But I also don't think her intentions were as sinister
as you are trying to portray them as being.
>> This

WD> The copyright-game, Jeff, is a mainly American invention. Tom Jennings
WD> started with it and already 10 years ago that balloon was deflated by
WD> yours truly. Americans have played that game for years in a much more
WD> serious way than Michiel has, I have received letters of US attorneys
WD> with high sounding titles in the letterhead-paper about "International
WD> copyright law agency" etc ... we (my attorney and myself) laughed them
WD> in the face in 1997 already.
WD> We discovered already then this copyright issue was nonsense. Michiel
WD> just demonstrates it again and y'all fail to grasp the message.
Michiel's game of using copyrights is the cause of this issue. Is
copyrights nonsense as related to Fidonet? I would have to say yes. Was
Michiel trying to make some positive point with his demonstration? If he
was I would have to say that it didn't work. Was it a way to create further
division and discontent within Fidonet? I can't honestly say that it was.
But that looks to be the result regardless. Bottom line here Ward is that
people are needlessly playing games here. Games that only result in fewer
Fidonet nodes and less interest in wanting to be a member. Granted, this
is only one of several factors causing this. But why do we need to be
deliberately be putting more nails in the Fidonet coffin?
WD> Tell you what, this is my personal opinion, this is not about
WD> copyright at all ... copyright is just the tool to bash Michiel, a
WD> fine person whom you have not had the opportunity to meet in person
WD> while I have. There is not a second person like him if you are in
WD> technical or other need (well, perhaps Johan Zwiekhorst). His only
WD> vice is that he always wants to be right, the trouble is that in many
WD> cases he is and will draw the blood from under your fingernails until
WD> you realise he was right.
I am in no way stating that Michiel is not the type of person that
you claim. I have only my interaction with him here to base my opinion
on. Based on what I have seen and based on his responses to me. He seems
to think that he and his way is right. Regardless of whether it is working
or not. He seems unwilling to even listen to ideas and suggestions if they
are not his own. He seems to automatically suspect people of being insincere
or dishonest. Underneath Michiel might be a very caring and willing to help
person. It is a shame that he hides it so.
I try to be as you describe. I try to trust people until they prove
to me that that trust isn't justified. I try to not judge people and try
to accept people as they are as much as possible. Lord knows that I don't
always succede but I keep trying. People are always going to be different.
What is important is communication. Communication helps breed understanding.
And understanding helps overcome the differenses that may exist between
people. That is why I have a problem with Michiel. He refuses to even
consider suggestions from others and suspects any offers of ideas. He
refuses to consider that I might just be trying to help. The ZoneX way of
doing things is pointless. Its the way that works that is important NOT
whose way it might be.

WD> I don't think so, because Mark Lewis wasn't aware. I wasn't aware,
WD> living in zone-2 the ZC/1 edict does not apply here and shouldn't
WD> bother me. Bjorn also noticed he received the dudfile, he's also
WD> zone-2. There are other people in other zones in the same case.
I'm thinking that a number of people made some changes to their
configs. Both in Z1 as well as the other zones.

WD> At best a sharp pen ... and the written word often is more painful
WD> than a fist in the face?
Absolutely. A word can often be sharper than a knife and cut
much deeper too.
WD> Take care,
