MvdV>>>>> I am sure she could, but that isn't the point. Point is that
MvdV>>>>> she does not have to.

RW>>>> because there is work in her field, otherwise, she might have
 RW>>>> to.

MvdV>>> Bottom line: she does not have to.

RW>> No, that's a variable. Bottom line is, she may or may not have to.

MvdV> Bottom line is that she does not have to. Yes, that is a variable
MvdV> and tomorrow it may be different, but now, she does not have to.

It's no longer an issue. I told her that she has to find a cleaning lady
job after the holidays. Of course, she'll ignore me and that will be that.

RW>>>> the rest of the time, she was at home doing the cleaning.

MvdV>>> Of course not. Not all the time. Ever so often she was acting
MvdV>>> net control on the local 2m net while I did the cleaning.

RW>> LOL! We call that 'pussy whipped' where I come from.

MvdV> I am not surprised. it speaks volumes about where you come from.

And you.

MvdV>>> She was good at that: running the net. She had a very clear
MvdV>>> voice and of course being an xyl she never needed the linear.
MvdV>>> The second X chromosome is good for two S points...

RW>> So is a voice processor.

MvdV> And so she got an extra 4 S points.

Felten could do the same with his extra x cromosome genes.

MvdV> Plus two more for the the beam....

Nope. I'm on the backside of your beam and mines pointing the opposite
direction. She's in the mud and I can't hear her, even with the pre-amp
plugged in.

RW>>>> I know, taxes are so high in your country, one can't afford to
RW>>>> buy bread, let alone hire a house-worker.

MvdV>>> I have no problem buying bread. And if I can no longer but
MvdV>>> bread, I can always buy cake.

 RW>> As in Marie Antoinette.

MvdV> Marie Antonette never *bought* a piece of cake in her life.

But she made a lot of people eat some cake before they killed her.

MvdV>>> I see no reason why a cleaner could not operate as a bussiness
MvdV>>> here, but I see no advantage either. It just raises the
 MvdV>>> adminstrative overhead.

RW>> The reason would be that the customer doesn't have to pay the taxes,
RW>> thus the possibility of you hiring a cleaning lady would be higher.

MvdV> As I attempted to explain: here it makes no difference. The end
MvdV> result is the same: for every Euro the cleaner gets after taxes,
MvdV> whoever hires him/her has to come uo with two Euro.

There are loop-holes in every tax system and there are also people to take
advantage of them everywhere. If you're not, then you're among the
minority.

RW>>>> She pays her own taxes and her customers have a legal tax
 RW>>>> deduction for services rendered.

MvdV>>> In the end it makes no difference *who* actually pays the
MvdV>>> taxes. If the cleaner ends up with 10 Euro in his/her hand
MvdV>>> after taxes, 20 Euro has to be footed by whoever employs
MvdV>>> him/her. The employer can give the cleaner Eur 10 and pay Eur
MvdV>>> 10 in taxes, or the employer can hand over Eur 20 to the
MvdV>>> cleaner and than the cleaner pays Eur 10 on taxes. Same end
 MvdV>>> result.

RW>> Unless the cleaning lady was a bonefide and licensed business, in
RW>> which case, the customer wouldn't have to pay any taxes.

 MvdV> See above.

See above.

MvdV>>> Running the cleaning operation as a bussines does not help.
MvdV>>> Before the cleaner can buy bread to eat, he/she has to transfer
MvdV>>> the money form the bussines to his/her private wallet and then
MvdV>>> he/she pays income tax. 50%. Same end result.

RW>> But then, you're overlooking the satisfaction of being
 RW>> self-employed.

MvdV> What differnce does it make? You worl for a biss or you work for a
MvdV> client. Either way you have to bow to his/her whims to get your
 MvdV> money.

Trust me, you bow more for your clients than you do for your employer.

RW>> And there must be some compensation in that when it comes time to
RW>> file an income report. i. e. business deductions.

MvdV> See above: the end result is the same.

See above. Not exactly.

MvdV>>> If the bussines buys the bread and gives it to the cleaner to
MvdV>>> eat, it is considered income "in natura" and it is levied with
 MvdV>>> income tax. TANSTAAFL.

RW>> But does that stop the self-employed from being paid a wage by their
 RW>> own business?

MvdV> Of course not. But it does not stop the tax collector either.

See above. It does in many cases, even if it's temporary.

RW>>>> If you hire a contractor to build you a room addition (never
RW>>>> mind that you don't have any room to spare for it), are you
RW>>>> paying his taxes or are you 'employing' his services through his
 RW>>>> business?

MvdV>>> I employ his services through his bussiness. He pays the taxes.
MvdV>>> And of course his rates take that into account...

RW>> As would the cleaning ladies business.

MvdV> So there is you answer: same end result.

See above. Not exactly.

RW>>>> It does if I didn't own a vacuum cleaner and a mop.

MvdV>>> The required equipment is widely available and the investment
MvdV>>> is less than one hour's pays for the cleaner. If you can not
MvdV>>> afford a vacuum cleaner, you surely can not afford to hire a
 MvdV>>> cleaning lady.

RW>> And then of course, one must have the incentive and the ability to
 RW>> use the equipment.

MvdV> If one is too stupid to operate a vacuum cleaner, I do not see how
MvdV> one can earn enough money to hire someone who can...

My cousin was a 4.0 student, all through high school and college. She was
a very smart person when it came to the books, but she didn't have a lick
of sense or coordination to her name. With the PHD she earned in college
as her ticket to the business world, she earned quite a bit of money that
went towards employing servants who did the job that she couldn't do; one
of which was to turn on the vacuum cleaner. Her three children were all
raised by nannies and they don't have the sense that she had. They're now
into the business world with PHDs and going down the same path as their
mother. If only their practical and sensable father had lived to see that.
