MvdV> Mud slinging in a competitive environment seems to be part of
MvdV> American life. It is not restricted to politics, we see it
MvdV> everywhere. yes, right now Obama en Clinton are tearing each other
MvdV> apart or trying to anyway, but sooner or later a winner will emerge
MvdV> ans that will be the end of that. Then it will be the winner

Well duh! So far we've seen a lot of in-fighting among the dems. So far,
we have only seen some unscrupulous campaign workers from the McCain camp
doing the same. They're not tolerated by McCain himself, who pledges not
to engage in such. Google 'Cunningham' and you'll find this to be the
truth.

 WD>> Whether or not he's a Republican doesn't really matter because I
WD>> cannot imagine he would support Bush's agenda ...that would be
 WD>> political suicide.

MvdV> He is a member of Bush's party and as such he is tarnished.

He's a member of the Republican party, not Bush's party. He's been in this
situation before, running against Bush. Bush slandered him in the 2000
election and there is no comparison between the two. Bush is a true
conservative, while McCain is a liberal/conservative.

MvdV> Not supporting Bush's aganda will not make that go away.

He hasn't supported Bush's agenda since their run for the nomination in
2000.

WD>> Another element is the war in Iraq which Bush declared was over
WD>> something like 5 years ago...

Actually, he declared victory against Saddam's regime. He didn't say the
war was over...

WD>> No candidate is opposing Iraq too loud, not even Obama, because
WD>> doing so would be equal to not supporting the troops and that would
 WD>> be political suicide.

Which isn't true. "End the War" - Obama, doesn't apply to the war on
drugs...

MvdV> Plus that whoever becomes the next POTUS will be saddled with
 MvdV> clearing up the mess.

There is no mess, so that statement is moot.

MvdV> A mission impossible, so to avoid questions they can not answer,
MvdV> they avoid the subject alltogether.

There's no avoiding the question with the American press. If they want
that issue to be among the issues of this election, that question won't go
away.

WD>> I hear none of the Prez hopefulls express themselves too vocal
WD>> against the detention center at Guantanamo. To do so would be
WD>> considered contrary to national security and as a result ... would
 WD>> be political suicide.

 MvdV> Same story.

Wrong. Bush will see to it that Guantanamo will be a non-issue before the
election in November. Most of the detainees have been released and only
the very core of terrorists are left. They're scheduled for prosecution
soon.

MvdV> None of the candiates appears to be willing to express themselves
MvdV> too openly on matters that concern us non-Americans most.

They don't need to worry about 'your concerns' to win the US Presidential
election. They only answer to the American people.

WD>> So what do we have?

 WD>> * A young black man

MvdV> I wonder why they call him black. He is half white, half black in
 MvdV> my perception.

"If you're black, there's no turning back." If the man wishes to bring
that to the fore as he has done, it must be his wish to be considered
black.

Tiger Wood's is half black and half Phillipino, yet he thinks of himself
as black.

WD>> of which 10% of his speeches is made-up of the word "change". I wish
WD>> he would start discussing content rather than the wrapping of the
 WD>> package

MvdV> So would I but it appears change is what the American people
 MvdV> want...

Yes, but Obama's change isn't what we want.

MvdV> Will he be a good president? I really do not know.

I doubt that he would. He isn't experienced enough to be President. He's
barely experienced in US politics, only serving two years as a US Senator.

MvdV> he may not live long enough to make a serious mistake and go down
MvdV> in history as the second Kennedy. Or not, we will see...

He certainly is not equal to 'the' Kennedy by any stretch of the
imagination. "I knew Jack Kennedy. You're no Jack Kennedy!" - Texas
US Senator Lloyd Bentsen.

WD>> * A woman who is either PMSing or suffering from menopause and cries
 WD>> in front of a TV-camera.

MvdV> That was an act. It worked. For a moment...

She seems to be resigned to the fact that she's not going to be the dem
nominee.

MvdV> Another prolem with McCain is his age. He is 72. If he makes it
MvdV> through his second term, he will be 80 at the end of the run. Do
MvdV> people really want another Alzheimer case at the helm?

He's 71. Who is to say that he'll survive in office to be elected to
another term...Let's get through the first one before we look ahead that
far. Ronald Reagan was 70 when elected to his first term and wasn't
diagnosed with alzheimers until 5 years after he left office.
