If they are already receiving public assistance and continue to bear children
it increases their dependency and affects their ability to get a job and off of
assistance..

Thats not what I am talking about..

ZERO tolerance, which is what you complained about came about after existing
penalties for existing crimes werent serving as a deterence, therefore
penalties got made tougher.

Examples:

Drunk Driving Laws...

Pretty lax when you and I were young, now in most states they are very tough in
contrast..

Sexual Harassment/Hostile Workplace..

Weak and pathetic in the days of old, ZERO tolerance with severe penalties
(mostly civil) today.

How many times have you heard today of children being sustended and in some
cases expelled because they brought a nail file to school?

Last year or the year before, I read of a case in which a boy was expelled
because the school officials found a ordinary knife and fork in his lunchbox.
He and his family had Ribeye steaks the night before and he decided to bring in
some leftovers, he packed his own lunch and grabbed a knife and fork from the
silverware drawer so that at lunch he could cut and eat the steak.

I find some of these cases disturbing because afterall a ink pen, much less a
sharpened #2 pencil can be formidable weapons in their own right, not to
mention what could be had in shop class.

You forget that Congress is in DEM hands now (see 2006), get a Obama and you
are gonna give that man as many blank checks as what Bush got in his first term
and half of his second.
