On whose money? I could go on about the way valuables were taken from jews and
regime critics, the forced labor, the "I gave my gold for iron" program, but
I'm sure you know all that. And of course Germany in 1933 wasn't bankrupt,
although it was having the same kind of problams as at present with tight
money. There were still gold reserves to draw on and even in view of the
depression a certain amount of credit. But that ran down eventually, and fresh
money was hard to come by - just like now. So they were very inventive and
simply took what they needed.

Don't try quoting that on a German street unless you want a fistfight. They
paid when and if it suited them, and only as long as that.

"Kraft durch Freude"... yeah, I know. And the nice camping trips of the HJ,
preparing them for their future life as soldiers.

And in fact did until their wealth was confiscated. A lot of them thought that
since they fought for Germany in WWI they were exempt from the pogroms. They
were wrong.

For a time that was true, and only because they stole from their own
population. Then that wasn't sufficient anymore.

At any rate, what you're writing is a good deal farther out than the comments
of a man like Joerg Haider, and as for him, the German press is now having a
field day with character assassination after his death on the weekend. Be
careful: such comments are for Germans what positive remarks on teenage sex and
abortion are to Americans.
