YEp, I did the paper routes too, and like you, extras came
out of my pockets.  But now that meant that on weekends
instead of howl at the moon like some of those same friends
I was on a bandstand somewhere entertaining adults, and
sometimes other teens, depending on which band.

YEp, and the plaid lads' girls liked the musicians at the
dances too, and sometimes that was helpful too <grin>.  MOst of my
extracurricular were drama, of course band and choir,
I was editor of school newspaper, all sorts of fun stuff
like that.  Still a juggling act between those activities
and the two bands.

THe jazz band I played with was operated by a teacher from
another school, and about half his band was high schoolers.
DOn't keep the grades up and one lost his paying gig.
