MvdV>>> The odd thing is that *I* do not see it...
RW>> Here's one that some of you say doesn't ever happen in Europe.
RW>> Did you miss this one too?
RW>> "Handgun ties French school shooting to attacks on soldiers"
MvdV> No, I did not miss that one.
RW>> "Radical Salafists on the rise in Germany"
MvdV> That one I missed.
RW>> "While right-wing terrorism is currently the focus of attention in
RW>> Germany, the threat posed by religiously motivated extremism
RW>> remains. Radical Salafists are considered especially dangerous."
RW>> You know that 'right-wing' terrorism means the same as neo-nazi.
RW>> Right?
MvdV> No, it doesn't. Not all neo-nazis are terrorists
Their actions speak for themelves, just like it did with the same
political party of the 1930s. That wasn't called terrorism then, but it
would be called that today.
MvdV> and not all right-wing terrorist are neo-nazis.
Right, they're called Salafists...
MvdV>>> I can't rule it out, but there is little or no indication that
MvdV>>> it is. WWII seldom surfaces in any of the forums that I visit,
MvdV>>> EXCEPT those where Americans are present. From my prespective
MvdV>>> it IS linked to Americans.
RW>> And from mine it is merely news that would more than likely interest
RW>> Europeans.
MvdV> It may interest Germans, but certainly not all Euroepens. Germany
MvdV> is a big cuntry in Europe, but it is not all of it.
It is a German publication...and it would behoove their neighbors to keep
an eye on what they're doing about internal problems like the above.
RW>> Hell, DW doesn't even respond to input by Americans. I know, since
RW>> I've attempted to correct mistakes that are completely made up by
RW>> the writers when they reference America(ns).
MvdV> Or maybe they were right but it is you who was told the wrong
MvdV> story.
Not hardly. Some of the comments from UK readers were in alignment with
mine...
RW>>>> who are just as aware as anyone. Even moreso, considering that
RW>>>> they were alone in the fight after the Poles and French moved
RW>>>> government and royalty to England.
MvdV>>> French royalty? There hesn't been any in over 200 years...
RW>> You know what I meant. Dutch Royalty fled to England during the
RW>> invasion of your country.
MvdV> Some also fled to Canada. The sissies...
And some of them didn't get out of Spain before Spain began to send them
back. Probably as payback for the loan of German Stukas during their 1936
revolution.
RW>> The French moron head of state; who claimed victory of his own after
RW>> the Allies defeated Germany and we sent him home, was the character
RW>> representing France.
MvdV> What has all that got to do with the American obsession with WWII?
Other than he fled to England while nearly everyone else remained in
France, where he showed the world that he was a loud-mouthed coward,
nothing much.
But it does serve as a place in the discussion to ridicule the person in
question.
RW>>>> I don't think we're anymore interested than the next guy. I'm
RW>>>> not,
MvdV>>> You as an individual may not, but I can't help noticing that
MvdV>>> only in the presence of Americans does the subject of WWII come
MvdV>>> up regularly.
RW>> The subject of WW2 is still discussed in German news media...They
RW>> compare present events to past events all the time.
MvdV> So you say, but that does not match my observation.
That is my observation...I'll stick by it.
RW>>>> but I'm aware of such things, since all y'all avoid it like the
RW>>>> plague.
MvdV>>> Avoid it? Not any more than I avoid prostitution or drugs.
RW>> I recall when you've stated here many times that you don't like it
RW>> to pop it's little head up.
MvdV> Yes, I am fed up with this digging in the past. It serves no
MvdV> purpose and it is annoying. But I do not avoid it as such. If I
MvdV> would, I would ignore you and i am respoding am I?
Sure, but the discussion started on the subject of neo-nazism of present
day Germany and reports of it in German media. That it has wondered in the
WW2 direction wasn't intended to shove WW2 in your face.
MvdV> The fact is Roy that the only place I get constantly confronted
MvdV> with WWII is right here in Fidonet in the so called "international
MvdV> echos".
Noted.
MvdV>>> I am sure that both can be had in this little village, after
MvdV>>> alll it is everywhere, and I would no doubt find it if I
MvdV>>> started looking hard enough. But I am not looking...
RW>> When they printed the local police blotter on a daily basis in the
RW>> local rag, I noticed that drugs and prostitution were prevelant in
RW>> this town as well. Yet, I don't see any evidence of it on the
RW>> streets when I go out. Neither am I looking for it.
MvdV> Exactly my point. Only those interested in drugs or prostitution
MvdV> and who start looking for it, will see it.
I call it derisive filler whose space could be better used to report more
newsworthy items like how many people were floating tubes on the Comal or
Guadalupe' Rivers in town. Or some interviews of vacationers who enjoy the
Schlitterbahn parks during the summer.
MvdV> I see no evidence of drugs or prostitution when go out on the
MvdV> street. Neither do I see any evidence of people interested in WWII.
We can see evidence of people interested in WW2 by their social gatherings
in such places as Kerrville, just up the road, where there is a plethora
of WW2 interest, since it was the home of a WW2 Admiral by the name of
Nimitz and a WW2 museum dedicated to him. In this small town, there is
more interest in the history of its original German settlers including
their leader and benefactor, Prince Karl of Braunfels, Germany...
MvdV>>> No doubt true for the old stuff, but when people are truly
MvdV>>> interested in a subject, there is new stuff as well, such as
MvdV>>> magazines. I don't see muchof that either.
RW>> The only time I see anything of that nature is when I'm looking for
RW>> books to read. If one with the words or title include NAZI and you
RW>> take a look at it, AMAZON.COM is guilty of this: They present you
RW>> with a couple of dozen just like it to look at with a statement that
RW>> goes something like this: Those who bought this book, also bought
RW>> these.
MvdV> My guess is that the same would happen if you looked at a book
MvdV> about vintage cars or fishing. It does not mean that WWII is
MvdV> anything special, other than that YOU showed an interest..
Yeah, but I wasn't looking for it. I was looking for a book on gunsmithing
an AR-15, a civilian sporting rifle that was first built in the 1950s,
that is still made and very popular today.
RW>> And they give you a dozen more samples on the same subject. They
RW>> must be keeping a record, since I got the same samples when I logged
RW>> onto Amazon with my Kindle Fire.
MvdV> One of the reasons I do not have an account with them.
I'm getting there.
RW>>>> Nope. I'm interested in how Europe is going to get out of the
RW>>>> economic mess that it's in,
MvdV>>> I wonder why you are so interested in that. The financial
MvdV>>> crisis started in the US and the US is still in deeper shit
MvdV>>> than Europe.
RW>> Dunno where you got that idea.
MvdV> The folding of the housing market in the US is what triggered the
MvdV> world financial crisis.
It hasn't folded, just the financial institutions that were loaning money
to people who shouldn't have been buying housing that they couldn't
afford. That's a government caused problem.
MvdV> And the US housing market still hasn't recovered.
The decline in the value of the dollar has killed any recovery.
RW>> Unemployment is down from just a few months ago, while the stock
RW>> market is on the rise again.
MvdV> Same here. But look at the national debt figures. The US scores a
MvdV> lot higher per capita than Europe.
Proving that you can't borrow and spend your way out of a recession.
RW>> The only thing wrong today is that the moron sitting in the WH has
RW>> caused fuel prices to sore 109% since he took office in 09.
MvdV> Good. That will teach y'all not to be so wasteful.
Wasteful? The decline in cost-prohibitive fuel sales here has caused the
surplus fuel to be exported and sold to China in the name of debt
reduction.
MvdV>>> Shouldn't you worry about your own turf first?
RW>> Your (EU) part of the world has to grow it's economy for us to grow
RW>> ours.
MvdV> Any mathematician can tell you that a system based on continues
MvdV> growth will crash sooner or later.
They should also tell you that spending more than you have coming in will
crash your growth just as easily.
RW>> This is an even smaller world than it was last year.
MvdV> True. And there are things that I like about that and things that I
MvdV> don't.
The same here, but I'm merely 1 in 6 billion who doesn't have much of a
say in the matter...
