There was a recent documentary on the subject; Discovery or ???

It ended with the plane flying off into sun down oblivion. We all know
that she and her nav disappeared and were never seen or heard from again.

Uh-huh...one has to learn to walk before one can run.

Her real problems came about while attempting to fly long distances all at
once, rather than taking one baby step at a time.

No doubt. With the tide came large fishes that would have eaten large
chunks of them in one bite.

kept their heads above water and fed them wasn't a wise idea either.
