===================================================
JK> See my reply to Roy.. interesting artifacts have been found on the
JK> atoll where Earhart is thought to have landed..
 WD>
WD> Actually, nothing is known at all, except that Earhart did not
 WD> reach Howland.
WD> A finger phalanx bone was found but DNA-research is inconclusive,

there was much more than that found... those remains were lost after being sent
to the islands for further analysis by some who didn't know the difference
between the bones of an islander and those of outsiders... the whole story is
told on the tighar site and other places doing their own research into the
matter...

WD> it may even be a turtle bone. Further some traces of rouge, a
WD> broken woman's cosmetic mirror, trace of a campfire with bird and
WD> fishbones, clam shells and a few heat-warped bottles probably used
 WD> to boil water.
 WD>
 WD> That is 'it'.

bullshit... you've only read the last few pages... there's a lot more
information available if you really deign to dig for it...

WD> Had Earhart/Noonan really landed at Gardner they would've salvaged
WD> parts of the plane but that seems not to be the case. Some
WD> aluminium parts have been found on Gardner but they cannot be
WD> possitively linked to an airplane.

yeah, and??

WD> Do not forget, Earhart/Noonan disappeared in 1937. From 1938
WD> through 1965 the island was inhabited by British subjects, even a
WD> coconut plantation was tried. During those 27 years nobody of the
WD> up to 100 people living there found a trace.

bullshit... that's when the skeletal remains were found and sent to another
island for analysis and then lost...

WD> Gardner is 6km by 2km wide but most of that is an atol, there's
WD> only a little bit of land and 100 people in 27 years would
 WD> certainly have found something.

yeah, right... no one has yet to go off the deep end of the shoals to see
what's down there some 2000+ feet below... and no one has an explanation for
the object sticking up in the photos of the wrecked ship nearby... that object
could easily be a wheel assembly wedged into the coral which broke loose when
the tides came in and torn the plane aloose and washed it down the shelf...

WD> THIGAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery), I
WD> think I've read about every sylable they ever published on this,
WD> have launched into 10 expeditions which yielded exactly what I
 WD> described above.

yeah, but you are leaving some parts out... that or forgetting them... i've
also read these accounts and contributed to their endeavors... i also have an
open mind and can easily see where others may be flushing when they should be
bailing...

WD> One of the paths to investigate of course is that maybe existing
WD> artifacts have been involuntary destroyed during those 27 years of
 WD> settlement.
WD> THIGAR's approach and conclusions are discarded by the
WD> international scientific community as unreliable.

yeah, and? how many times has the "scientific community" done the same? seems
to me they did this with numerous scientists in the past... those scientists
who we now know to have been correct...

JK> "Noonan's techniques--a combination of celestial navigation and dead
JK> reckoning brought the Electra close to Howland Island.
 WD>
WD> The significant portion of that day's flight was performed in broad
WD> daylight. There you go with "celestial navigation".

so going by the sun is not "celestial navigation"?? that's a knew one on me...

 WD> To quote military researchers:

and those military researchers couldn't do any better, either... they also had
problems holding up their end of the work...

WD> the flight was badly planned and even worse executed. For
WD> starters, Noonan was a known severe alcoholic, his reasons for
WD> being asked to leave PanAm are still unclear but I wouldn't be
WD> surprised if it were alcohol.

cop out... and i'm stopping right there... you are going on about it as if you
were there and yet you are accusing those who make it their life's work of
speculating too much which you are also doing... pot, kettle, black...
