subjects from Caucasian origin.... slight detail ... I know.

THIGAR makes assumptions based on assumptions which were made based on an
assumption. It looks very bad when your sponsors pour tens of thousands of US$
in a project which only yields a single bone-fragment which is so damaged no
analyses is possible whether it is human or turtle.

A single bone-fragment is all that can be accounted for ... those skeletal
remains were not even photographed ... there's no proof ... the Mormons will
love you.

A wrong scientific hypothesis reached with a correct scientific approach still
has merit, as long as the methodology is sound. In the case of THIGAR and their
visits to Gardner that is not the case.

With a single fixpoint over thousands of miles of open water indeed there is
very little of "celestial navigation" to be talked about. A single fixpoint
plus deadreckoning over thousands of miles of open water with no information
about wind-velocity, -direction, density, pressure, drift ... borders on
suicide.
 
You need a plan-B overthere. Earhart did not have a plan-B, even her plan-A was
whakky at best. With what she had in her tanks she figured she was fine and
expected to arrive spot-on on her destination without any meaningful reserves.
She had only 1 shot ... actually, in the present day she would be denied
departure clearance because she was so ill prepared.
 
But comments on such an icon are not allowed of course ..
