How about this:

You may want to check their terms and condition. They may be quit different
from gmx.de.

They can, but they usually are located in the same country as where the company
reside.

There is a difference between the US government knowing which US website I
visit and the reading all my e-mail,

Even better would be to run my own e-mail server.

Its the principle. Governments should not spy on citizens.

I have tried that too, but on;y my FidoNet friends seems to have the expertise
to use PGP.

BTW, you can get my public key by sending a netmail to "pgpserver" at
2:280/5555.
