Hiya Roy...

RC>> Obama was a welfare pimp, he is nearing the point of passing Carter
RC>> as the worst POTUS ever.

BF> Carter? Whatever did he do wrong?

RW> Everything. The best thing he ever did was capitulate to the best thing
RW> to come along since Harry Truman and Ike.

BF> You *do* know that the Hollywood B-actor you voted for after him took
BF> credit for most of the good things that Jimmy did?

RW> That's odd. The hostages that were taken under the Carter
RW> administration (who failed to rescue them with Army Special Forces and
 RW> helicopter crashes), where released after 400+/- days in captivity;
RW> when that B-actor was sworn in as Prez.

Better review your history again. Agreed the hostages were released on the day
of Reagan inaguration but the negotiations (Algiers Accords) took place during
the time between the election and Janurary 20th, 1981. I would agree Tehran was
probably fearful of the consequences Reagan had made public. Even Henry
Kissenger predicted it. The idea of Iran punishing Carter for the US support
of the Shah has been forgotten over the years but the fact still remains, the
agreement was formulated and agreed upon during the Carter Administration.

BF> Here's a shocker for you: IMHO the JFK administration was one of
 BF> the worst ever.

RW> No shock and the outcome of his admin was even better.

BF> Not because Kennedy was a particularly bad POTUS, but because he
BF> had the worst advisers imaginable around him.

RW> Still, as Commander in Chief of US military forces, he was a failure.
RW> Remember the Bay of Pigs failed invasion of Cuba? That was his baby.

Actually the Bay of Pigs was Ike's baby. he was the one who got the CIA ball
rolling so to speak but JFK did sign off on it. That could probably be due to
his advisors and the pressure from the highly organized Cuban lobby. Either
way, it was a mistake.

BF> Not only did they almost bring the world to a nuclear WWIII,

RW> Not really. Had Kruschev pushed his luck, that would have brought the
RW> demise of the Cuban revolutionary forces and every USSR naval vessel to
RW> an abrupt end. Without nukes, btw.

BF> but they also were responsible for the Vietnam war

RW> Not exactly, but close. Ike provided US Army advisors to South Vietnam.
RW> It wasn't until Johnson (dem) became Prez that Vietnam was escalated to
RW> a full out war. One in which Janis and her ilk protested at the time.
RW> Not because of her beliefs, but because she was a stoner at the time.
RW> I, oth, was witness to those people spitting on US soldiers returning
RW> from a war that they had no choice in serving in, else prison or escape
 RW> to Canada.

JFK did continue the sending of "advisors" to Vietman in his early days but
part of the thought process was he realized it was an unwinable conflict and
was planning a pullout. Again, the CIA was a BIG influence and we all know the
power they yield. His assassination abruptly put an end to his stepping back
from Vietnam. LBJ on the other hand wasn't so concerned as he had a vested
interest in Vietnam being he was a large shareholder in Bell Helicopter. Oh
the tangled webs we weave...

BF> and it's fatal consequences on the US economy -- and eventually to
BF> some degree on the world economy.

RW> I recall those times as a great time of plenty. I was employed at a
RW> company that enjoyed more and more contracts, thus continuing my
RW> employment, which the company considered 'overhead' at the time. i.e
RW> when the war began to de-escalate under Nixon (Rep), I was among the
 RW> first to be unemployed.

War is profitable... at the expense of lives...

BF> But when it comes to the POTUS himself, I think that the rest of
BF> the world, as well as the majority of the US citizens, agree with
BF> Janis: There's nobody who comes even close as runner up after GWB as
 BF> the worst POTUS ever.

RW> You may think you have a better perspective of things in America, but
RW> you really have no idea.

RW> The world and Janis have no idea what the American people think of GWB,
RW> but I can tell you that his approval ratings in his 2nd 'lameduck' term
RW> were much higher than the present 'lameduck' at 41% and declining.

Actually GWB's approval ratings during the same period of his 2nd term was a
high of 43% to a low of 31% with an average of about 32%. The President's
approval rating during the first 5 months of this year are a low of 40% to a
high of 45% with an average of about 43%. GWB's lameduck average was 37% while
Obama's is at 48%. That average is incomplete as he still has 18 more months
in office but I doubt it will change much. These stats were taken from gallop
if you doubt my source. I think the world has a better understanding of GWB's
ratings as compared to Obama's ratings with regard to approval by US citizens
than you do but I do agree, even though his approval ratings are increasing,
they still fall short in terms of a majority approval. Hey, it still beats
Congress' 13% approval.
