You are not safe.  Nobody is safe.  There is no such thing as safe.

With google and the internet, everybody is his/her own expert.
On everything.  With fidonet, there is no need for google or the
internet, as all one has to do is ask Roy W.  He knows everything.
About everyhing.  And best of all, he is never wrong.

Tides.  What causes tides?  The Sun causes tides.  But the Moon
causes bigger tides.  Now imagine what would happen if a large
planetary body (the size of Saturn or Jupiter) were to travel
close to Earth.  Not so close as to destroy the Earth, but close
enough to change the tides significantly.

I read a science fiction book entitled "The Wanderer" that was
based on this concept.  It is a cult classic, but I do not recall
the name of the author.  But you understand the point.

Massive tides caused by a large planetary body that is in close
proximity to the Earth would be a very real danger.  Has such a
thing happened in mankind's past?  According to some people, the
answer is yes.  Some people call it Planet X.  Others call it
Nibiru.  There are ancient writings about what damage this planet
has caused in times past.  Some excerpts can be found in the
Bible, depending on who you want to believe.  Anyway, there is
speculation that Planet X/Nibiru is about to pass this way
again ...
