In all states. There is a federal 10 day waiting period. California, to show
how modern' and front-running they are, imposed a 15 day waiting period.

You can't always believe what you read in the media from here.


The `background check' was mainly already in place in Anza's state, his mother
purchased the weapons he used in his shooting spree, and she was in violation
of almost all the state's laws that pertained to keeping firearms from the
hands of the mentally ill.


She `knew' he was a dangerous mental case and failed to secure her weapons in
a way that made them in-accessable to him.


She took him on regular target shooting outings.

Since 1998 the FBI has had the NICS in place. A firearms dealer inputs a
person's purchase info into his computer's NICS software, and just like a
cop out on a beat or in their station, recieves within a few minutes the
information of whether or not a person is barred from firearm ownership or
purchase.


Back many years ago you could walk into a gun store in most states, with a few
exceptions, and buy a handgun without even giving your name. You couldn't do
that in New York. They made you jump through a lot of hoops to buy a handgun,
so the handguns I had I bought out of state. One in West Virginia, and another
in Arizona. A few I bought on the black market in New York, but you had to be
careful of that as sometimes it was a setup by the local cops, or the weapon
had been used in a crime and someone was just getting rid of it.

So what? We have a sheriff in this county who made people jump through so many
hoops to get a concealed carry permit they finally had to take him to court to
get the right back!


He made an applicant `state a reason' for wanting a CCP. And if he didn't like
the reason (which was most of the time) you didn't get one.

No...it wouldn't!

*She* wasn't the one with mental problems..HE was. Very few people knew it
except her and some people who came in daily contact with him. *She* protected
him from being institutionalized for many years, choosing to deal with herself
at home. He wasn't *in* the system anywhere, he'd never `hit the radar' (been
institutionalized...adjudicated...evaluated...whatever). Didn't have an arrest
record or contact with law enforcement in a negative way that raised any
flags.


Also...he had been seen by mental health professionals already, who had (so
they claimed) seen nothing whatever in his `mental makeup' that even so much
as hinted at a shooting spree he committed.


Lanza had mental issues dating from about the fifth grade onward, and his
mother knew it. He slowly became obsessed with mass-shootings of young
children, evidence of which was found on his computer. The school shooting
wasn't exactly a `spur-of-the-moment' thing...he obviously developed it over
time.


His mother shielded him from life, mainly re-inforcing his progressively,
worsening mental illness. Their one shared interest in common was going to a
shooting range and practicing with handguns.


First of all...all the weapons Anza used in his shooting spree at the school
had been purchased by his mother.


Secondly...all three weapons found at the scene of the school shooting were
owned and had been purchased by Anza's mother. So a `background check' doesn't
even come into the picture. *HE* wouldn't have been subjected to one for any
of the weapons he used...it would have been *HER*! In fact...all the firearms
subsequently found in the home where he lived were his mother's, not his.


Another thing;



When the home was searched, two of the books found there were on Autism, and a
condition known as `Asperger's Syndrome'. And although it is said no
connection between the syndrome and violence exists, it IS a condition that
involves socially awkward behavior.


So no....NOTHING that has been put in place as a result of his shooting spree,
or that WAS in place prior, would have prevented what he did.


However...the *mother* could have prevented what happened long before it took
place, by some simple precautions on her part with her firearms.


I am 73 years old. And even I do not have any firearms accessable to any of my
offspring or grandchildren (many of whom are adults with children of their
own, now). There are firearms around here that are quickly accessable to me;
but *I* am the only one who knows where and how. Thats not because I'm afraid
any of them would `go off' with one....its just an ingrained habit of many
years standing; the `owner' of the fireams is the one responsible to see they
do not fall into the wrong hands...*NOT* the government!


The Sandy Hook shooting could not have been prevented by ANY gun law that was
in place prior to...or that has been enacted subsequent to, the tragedy.


The main fault for the whole thing lies solely on his mother's failings. Not
on gun laws.
