If it looks like Hillary Clinton is likely to lose to Donald Trump,
then President Obama will order the Department of Justice to come
down on her.  That will clear the slate for another candidate to
step in, given that socialist Bernie Sanders has no chance of
winning the election.  And you know what that means.  One of two
candidates will be chosen by President Obama -

* Joe Biden
* Jerry Brown

The only other possibility, which I find remote, would be -

* Elizabeth Warren

But that is not going to happen.  Joe Biden decided to step aside
so that Hillary Clinton would have a clear run.  And Jerry Brown has
given his own endorsement to Hillary Clinton.  Elizabeth Warren is
keeping her options open, just in case, ready for if the call comes.

Now to answer your hypothetical question -

So what?  Lots of politicians are investigated.  Of both major
parties, third parties, and no parties.  Just because a politician
is under investigation does not mean that he/she has done anything
wrong, illegal, or improper.  It doesn't even mean he/she is being
accused of anything.

Guilt by accusation is not going to work, if that is the game
that Republicans are playing.  It is more likely to backfire on
them, especially if their little witch hunt comes up with nothing.
And so far, all they have been able to come up with is a few low
key aides having plead guilty to minor offenses.  Nothing, and
I mean nothing, on the one they are after.

Nobody knows how much of the funds are going to veterans groups
because Donald Trump isn't talking.  And the longer he keeps quiet,
the longer he continues making himself look like a fool in the eyes
of the voters.  What is he trying to hide?  Hillary Clinton is
already having a field day with that one.
