Yes, but I think it would need some really long testing. I'm trying to
recall which problems cropped up exactly but i cant. If it's ok to list what
I seem to recall? I seem to recall at least one R50 based software failed.
It may have been argus or it may have been something else. I don't recall it
as a minor use package. It may have been a later flavor of that one which
was under development still and fixable?

The modem (modems?) that failed were low end ones but not uncommon.
Internals I believe so I suspect WINmodem. It wasnt all by any shot, just
enough to make the 'oh no' come up. I think it even got narrowed down with
one of them to tripping over A, B, C, and D. -UnPublished- gets stripped out
and not sent to the modem so it's having a D' would not show on this.

 > In the meantime INA should do the trick ....

I can easily see a simple 'tool' (seems it wouldnt be a hard one) that
automatically peeled off anything after the INA: and before the next , and
stuck it in the phone/connection field.

Sort of like: Run editnl (or whatever you use to add the diff to the
nodelist) then run 'INA-tool.exe' to do the little shift, then FD folks would
FDNC to process the nodelist. Done.

To me, this isnt in the same catagory as 'change your software'. Anyone who
doesnt have problems with a full FQDN in the phone field, can use it.
Meantime, we do *not* have to have all the NC and up folks shift tools and
change settings or anything else.

I'll add, this tool may exist now. I recall Michiel wipped up some tool a
few years back. Could it have been to do this? Not sure.

Can I dream? Make the tool with flags! 1= put the INAS data in the phone
field. 2- put it in the bbsname area, 3= ? And then it might solve alot
more issues some have.

Provided the data is in the nodelist 'someplace', I think this is all
workable.

Could be! But also we can fail if too many things are in the wind at the same
time. If however we make it *easy* on folks, they can see a way out of the
morass of choices.
