Ärende: Echo Rules and Guidelines
=================================
I think I may have missed a month or two with computer troubles, but
that in no way exempts you-all from having read the previous posting of
the rules and this one, and abiding by both!
ECHO RULES AND GUIDELINES
(any new points to this month's posting will be marked with an asterisk
('*') in the left-most column)
ECHO PURPOSE: to let you hear what you just said
The rules are in two sections. The first contains actual RULES,
breeching these may well affect your ability to access the FUNNY echo.
:( The second section contains guidelines and suggestions for making
FUNNY the most enjoyable for all that it can be. Both sections are not
numbered, because all the points are considered to be equally important,
read them all and make it a point to conduct yourself accordingly, and
we will continue to have a great echo in which everybody can have a
great time.
========================================================================
SECTION ONE: THE RULES
Most of these are quite standard, and can be deduced with a little
common sense. There are many sysops who have to call long distance to
carry FUNNY for their users, so we don't want to needlessly increase
their bills. I also want ALL users to feel comfortable remaining in
here to read and post.
========================================================================
-No flaming (ie. NO personal attacks in the echo)
*Do NOT alienate the rare(yet wonderful) female who wanders into FUNNY!
-Leave the moderating to the moderator(s), that's what we're here for
-If you feel you can NOT keep one of these rules, take it to NETMAIL(if
you have to, ask your sysop what it is and how to access netmail.)
-No off-topic messages; an ON-topic message contains a funny joke or
story. Don't write OR respond to off-topic messages.
-The moderators are exempt from this topicality requirement, for the
purpose of maintaining "Law and Order" in the echo
-If the moderator(s) declare a topic to be off-topic, this is a sure
sign that it is IMPERATIVE that the topic be dropped IMMEDIATELY.
-no excessive quoting -- 2-3 lines should be sufficient in most cases to
remind the others what the context is.
-no excessively long signatures -- 2-3 lines should be enough to tell us
who you are.
-handles permitted WITHIN REASON, if not abused. Preferred useage is by
signing your posts with your real name.
-No non-standard ascii (ie. use only keyboard characters) because it
low("control characters") or high ascii can wreak havoc on some non-PC
systems.
*no porting/gating the echo's messages into our out of any other
*communication stream(aka "net") without explicit permission from the
*current moderator.

========================================================================
SECTION TWO: THE GUIDELINES
These are suggestions that are intended to help all of us get the most
out of FUNNY, and which will hopefully encourage the greatest number of
sysops to feel comfortable carrying FUNNY. Breeching these will likely
get you the electronic equivalent of 12 lashes with a wet spaghetti
noodle, but in the interests of everybody's enjoyment please make it a
point to conduct yourself accordingly to these as wellas the rules.
========================================================================
1. This one IS #1, the rest fall under this one: HAVE FUN!
-refrain from gratuitous use of offensive terms (swearing, racial terms,
etc.); a single first letter, followed by *** to suggest the # of
letters is appropriate and allowed, however.)
-this echo is considered rated appropriate for ages 13 and over, so
sysops should allow access to younger folk accordingly, and users
should not be posting graphic x-rated material.
-to allow the enjoyment by the more sensitive adult viewers, it would be
a kindness to place "<warning>" in the subject line of jokes that might
have a greater chance of offending people(eg. focussed on racial,
religious, or sexual themes); a _little_ innuendo is always fun and
appropriate, but when it's FOCUSSED on the topic, some find it a bit
much. The <warning> tag allows the sensitive to twit messages
containing it, to allow the greatest degree of comfort all around.
-If you post a riddle, please post the answer in the same message, or in
the immediate succeeding message(ie. post them 2 in a row, at the same
time)
-Try to use meaningful subject lines (that somehow convey the content)
-if you post a pun, please include the original phrase below, perhaps
in the following format:
...body of pun... thus the surly bird gets the germ
[the early bird gets the worm]
True, must know most of them, but to make it easier for thosewho don't,
and to cut back on chitchat that only requests an explanation, this may
help
-
-the above guideline intentionally left blank
-use an offline reader to enable you to see every message, and to save
your online time, so you can dedicate more to us to post even more and
better jokes!
-no copies of the same joke to more than one user(all messages here are
publically accessible to all users); if you REALLY want someone to see
one, post them a short note telling them the subject line and the date
it was posted, and include a new & different joke in this notification
message
-I don't mind SHORT excerpts from copyrighted material, _if_ the
source(author and work) is identified. Respect the author's work by
not abusing this,please.
-include an "OJ"("Obligatory Joke") in messages that are not
specifically centred around posting a joke
-Please try to use meaningful subject lines, so those scanning a listing
of messages can more easily pick out certain topics. :)
-English is the majority language of the people carrying/reading this
echo, so please keep other languages to a minimum, and include a
translation if you feel you must post a foreign language joke!
-smile, have fun, enjoy life, post funny stuff in this here echo.
-you'll only get as much out of this echo as you are willing to putinto
it. Contribute funnies, refrain from posts that go against any of the
above, and we'll all benefit from an increase of FUN in FUNNY!
-don't be offensive
-don't be easily offended
