Hello Maurice!

19 Apr 07 16:01, you wrote to me:

This is what was in the message base of my mailhub:

I also saw the same trio of origin lines from the message base of my bbbs bbs.
Note where the tearline is, it might be why some of you didnt see it, you and I
use the same tosser, but your uplink uses gecho, well if I ever seen a dossy
tosser, gecho would be it.. :)

I hate H.P.

Guy I got it from refused to give me the password.
Canadian fella as his CMOS is set to PAL video

With no accent this alone spooked him.

He took the hard drive out to feel secure.

Well guess what?
The BIOS in the machine is still password protected.
Removing the battery with the H.P. unplugged did nothing.

It's an ACPI BIOS and I can tell you it ain't easy to clear.

H.P.'s web site is the usual PITA.

Well, it's all Intel chipset and the sound works.

Reference was made to a BIOS flash CD I may have.
There's a site to flash the bios that resets the password.

Boy you never saw a guy so exasperated as when I told him he was
Canadian and I could duplicate his password.

Now deleting it is another matter.

It's been half the day attempting to do that.

Well tomorrrow is another day and I shall see if H.P. has a downloadable
manual and if that is any help at all.

No AGP slot, it's PCI Express but it is also a Winblows modem but
separate
from the standard onboard audio.

I loaded up that infected Seagate with the BIOS virus..

I wonder if I should email file attach _someone_ a copy?
See if their BIOS flash is write protected?
Well _they_ did say I was imagining it ;-)

Want a copy <BEG>
I can boot to a blank formated floppy and send it to anyone
as it transfered back in that way the last time and it's
the same still infected Seagate :-)

It doesn't affect an ACPI BIOS in the least.

Of course I can download the latest F-Prot and clear it off of the
Slave but what fun is that?

It's a really, really nasty one :-)

This is one swell computer and except for setting up the BIOS after
cracking it about all I can do to upgrade it is to add a faster
processor.

I wanted a challenge?
I got it, it's the ACPI BIOS on this H.P.

BTW, CNTRL - M goes right around the _nulled out_ "ENTER" key.

With all the goofy shortcut keys on this H.P. Winblows keyboard
I can shortcut the CNTRL - M now can't I :-)
And have about 17 spare buttons left over<G>

I think this guy was stressed I had his password even as it is yet
unrecovered or copied or vaporized but I think he uses it elsewhere like
his online banking.

I've his name Billy Bob Vancouver, heh.

I could have transfered the contents of his bank account, rattled off
his
ancestry and told him his password in a day or three had I so desired.
All with him not having the first clue how and where it went.

Worst case I have to flash the BIOS and until I get rid of that thing
I am keeping it offline even though I've a 28,800 modem sitting loose
and the correct cable for the existing on the Gateway USR.

Well, I can do just about everything already with the computer as is
but I still ain't taking it online until I blow that BIOS password
away.

Boy oh boy ole Billy Bob freaked<g>
I offered him the computer back but he again declined.
That was when he and I had thought I'd just not had the battery out long
enough.

As I want to keep the machine I don't think I'll advise him the
password remains just kill it when I figure out how.

Oh yeah, the network card is Linux compatable too.

So for now it's just an offline machine and I *still* have to buy a
Gateway
with AGP for the Matrox or slip it in the Gateway.

Now I am up to FOUR computers, three now, one additional in two months.
Thrift shop has the fourth network card to tie them all together.

Oh yeah, someone tossed a cheap brand of SVGA monitor out.
It's sitting here in standby mode after I'd fixed it.
After a deluge of a rain storm.
And a fauty HV power supply crowbar or zener circuit was replaced
from a monitor
now scrapped to the dumpster.
I think after I dust it some having dried it out I may
just put the case back onto it.

Boy, I am beat, this has been one long and frustrating day.

Now I need about four hard drives, a USB 2.0 or two card and
and some USB external hard drive cases.

Well, next month I can manage that.
Well one hard drive in May.

Not May for the rest, that's committed already but hey, I'm just
up to my ears in
really cool computer hardware.

Hope the advice on the Windows CD is for real but as the disks are
OEM for H.P. I doubt they have the BIOS flash but I can get that from
ACPI
now can't I.

Windows continues to make my life complicated.
Oh well, recovered the files on that Seagate and that nasty
or virus that crapped all over my MBR is not bothering the slave drive
it's on or the CD or the ACPI BIOS.

I think I'll be going int business soon.
Perhaps not with working for the disabled as I had planned for
but lost the job the same day but maybe
just working for myself?

I'm getting pretty good at this stuff and my headaches
about all cleared up.

BTW, I suspect this may uload dispite my request Ed kill my user
account.

See possible inbound from Chowdanet a few days ago, or not, as
there's anti-nutcase security in place for me over there ;-)
And here at Ed Koon's place too last time I tried to kill
a message that appeared to have been written by me but would not
delete thus not having write priviliges<sp> in that echo.

But I am MUCH better now ;-)

But then too someone had on two occassions created a fake account from
some
other BBS in my real name and seemingly made it appear to be
me but for
some small errors.

The big one being I could not delete it on the identified
BBS though it was on an echo with write priviliges as I checked.

Whoa boy, it has been quite day!

... So easy, a child could do it. Linux given away separately for free.
