Do I want to know what's wrong with the pci-e version? I thought the official
acronym was pci-x?

Probably not, at least on the second count. <L> The one thing I did learn, is
there might be a reason all but one of these pigs came with a third party
caching RAID controller connected to the SCSI backplanes. Another thing I plan
to learn, is what kinda support Dell provides. <EG>

The odd thing, is I had the RAID all set and only *looked* at the settings with
their SCSI-RAID management program. Something isn't adding up, and that tends
to gather my goiter. As icing, no jumper seems to be documented to zero the
bitch. Bet money, that Dell will hear from me. <LOL>

I found a 3Comm Courier V.everything at a Sally Anne. Inept, is the best I can
describe the performance, (I have to force 2400, to connect at all.) so I sent
3Comm my opinions. They returned the usual "We can not guarantee the quality of
your phone line..." and "Please reset the modem with the factory provided
settings. Did you buy the modem new?"

"A *USR* Sportster works fine with the *same* HW handshake cable, *and* RJ-11
cable plugged into the *same* wall outlet." and "It had your shrinkwrap on it."
just made them clam up. I readdressed my latest complaint back to their support
desk, because a "reply to sender" to their last volley failed. I'm sort of
tickled that it only cost me $20, instead of the usual $200+, but for sheer
entertainment value, I've already squeezed every penny out of it.

RAID: Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives

The "price" was right, and I jumped on it. I *think* the RAID feature of the
controller will outperform the logical scheme provided by Linux, no? I "stripe"
my info across a number of drives, and achieve performance close to SATA, no?
If I was "mission critical", I would mirror, and have zero down time. Is that
even possible with a software only solution?

Ya, 58 boxes was down to 43, with a proviso for a different additional five...
And now he is not returning my mail. "Accommodation" is coming to a close,
unless I get a really good excuse.
