Hello Maurice!

eee pc 2G surf
512M ram, 2048M harddisk, winxp

why my eec is hot even when its idle ?

olso celeron m in my eee

ubuntu netbook edition ?

will try it here before reinstall xp again for the first time :/

maybe i just do that i install ubuntu in the ssd, and xp on remote usb
harddisk, most problem will be gone then for me, 2048M is not much to
a monster like xp with 8 browsers and constantly updates :/

512M is huge when one dont waste a ram disk on it :)

i can easely follow you here, just not with 4G ram, damm :)

MK> Given the cost of sata drives these

olso why asus disabled drive c: swaping on my eee, the ssd could very well
handle the load, but there would be out of diskspace very fast

MK> Where it would make the greatest impact isn't doable or at least not for

if i ever gets another xp box where i can use it as a remote desktop this would
come handy to use the desktop at home remotely via the eee, but so far i am
not there still, and i belive i choice linux for that anyway

MK> The glibc, gcc, and kernel builds require too much build space to exploit
 MK> tmpfs on an eeepc.

2048M should be enough for anyone :)

here i just have 512 :(

 MK> neck of the world.

my own goal for the eee is to have a computer to update software on my
nokia e51, not much other fun i exspect from it, but if it will let me see
how much or not xp can do on so little hardware as is, are also some expirence
in

MK> Also a bootable external usb drive is best for
MK> straight installs no matter what the targetted drive is including an
 MK> ssd.

yep i find it cool that it can boot anything external mounted on the eee so
ssd is not the biggest problem to get extended

MK> Still having kernel issues on the Atom with the recent builds of
MK> 2thingsInk and it is closest to emulating an eeepc. It has 2G of ram
MK> and could test a ssd target using tmpfs for build space.

ah nice, so testing on a vm like my eee could be done before burning the usb
stick ? :)

MK> That board might more resemble more modern eeepc's and the such. It'll
have to
MK> wait a little longer while I work out the kinks.

when i had my sons dell inspiration 9300 turned on last night it could run 4
hours
on batteries, something i still have to see from my eee :(

with is mostly not possible for the hot cpu or internal cooler :(

 MK> Life is good,
 MK> Maurice

well i have to check bios on this fidonet computer, i might be back :=)

 Regards Benny
