some gif and png images look nice with 128 colors. i think this is one of
libjasper's techniques, sort of interpolating the limited information to soft,
cloudlike form

the faroujda(sp) circuits on some displays are useful. a shopping channel
demoed a flat panel by turning the circuit on and off several times to show the
'jaggies' tamed nicely.

so far its perhaps wisely a compile-time option only, and then must be disabled
from the command line each time its unneeded afaik.

xmms, xlock, xscreensaver and several other packages have some good ones.
