Hey Janis!

Might be a good idea. The only thing I saw there that really benefits from a
more graphical type mode would be the screenshot of the terminal enviroment ...
if that makes any sense. I think it does but am at a loss to say why that
should be so. Anyhow I think it might be worthwhile for them to put quite a
bit of their information more upfront and readable. I would have read it.

Me too. Having said that, I now have a xorg-7.0.0 compiled but haven't got it
running in a bootable enviroment yet. Just tidying up and packaging things
before making the leap. Looks like it should work. Even through in some apple
compatible libs just for fun. Will have to have a looksee around to find
something that might use them.

JK> Yep, it does ;) Sometimes I use wget to grab a page too..

I've been using that to grab source mostly. Not quite what it was meant for
but it works great for that on the cammandline so why not?

JK> often.. bbbs even lets you do essentially that if you come in on the

That should work.

 JK> <grin>

I like the telnet/wget idea better. That could also be scripted and more
readily methinks (eg bash script).

JK> hehe.. you know, I have never installed the c-shell.. I thought about

I like bash best overall. I did look at tcsh, zsh and even ash but always come
back to bash for the day to day stuff in Linux. bash is my friend.

JK> When we finally bought our 2nd computer, it was a Leading Edge
 JK> ..wow..
 JK> <grin>.. Had a 10 meg drive,

My first one had a whopping 20 megger!!! :-)

JK> so we put dos on 5 meg, and Mark

Never heard of that. At that time I just used dos on the pc and unix on the
sparc's, except none of the sparc's belonged to me. They wanted WAY too much
money for those. The monitor alone costed $5000 at that time. Too rich for
this cowboy.

JK> we started looking as some of the unix systems.. I'm trying to
JK> remember the name of the one I fell in love with <bg>.. geez..

For pc's it was slackware that caught my fancy. Still does but I like to hack
it to suit whatever I feel a need to hack when the hacking mood strikes. I
find slackware to be the most flexible to hacking.,

JK> blanked out.. it was quite a system.. somehow I think later the Lisa
JK> might have been based on that cpu but I could be way off.. been too
JK> many years <grin>. We didn't get it though.. we decided to stick
JK> with dos and try to make a living <smile>..

On the pc back then, I agree. However when I saw slackware for the first time
running on a UofVic math prof's home based 486, I was hooked. He knew I would
be and he was right. I knew him from back on the Flatlands and he originally
showed me some X programming on the sparc's back there/then so he had a very
good idea what I was into, computerly speaking.

JK> Yeah, it was cool :) Though I much preferred being the star of the
 JK> show

Why doesn't that surprise me?

Life is good,
Maurice
