I suspect it will protect you from some of it, but not all of it.
One of the things I dislike about RealPlayer (and lots of other web stuff that
has sold out to MS) is that it uses the IE security defaults regarding cookies,
trusted sites, etc. When I use Real, I have a different view of a trusted site
than when I use IE. Yet, when I make a change for Real, that change is
reflected in the IE settings as well.
That's another reason why I prefer to use Opera, its security settings don't
change when I play a MP3 in RealPlayer....
