You may not want "pirating TV shows" as an example, but it is a very
compelling one for non-geeks. They see the results at their geek =
friend's
house and want to get them too. Pretty soon there are products to =
make it
easy and intuitive. This is driving the current adoption of home =
media
systems in the same way as porn drove the adoption of the VCR.

Around these parts, we're at the stage where the geeks find and =
download the
shows then burn them to DVD for their own use and for swapping with =
friends.
There's a demand here because the local TV channels don't buy the =
shows
because they don't think they'll rate. Sales of legally released TV =
shows on
DVD sets are also brisk, proving that people would be prepared to =
pay for
them if they were legally available.

Gee, spend money trying to stem the demand or make money satisfying =
it...
you'd think the media companies would show more common sense.
