Ärende: DAMN! Have to Change Broadband Providers Again!

Last year I changed from using Patriot Media, cable, as my broadband =
provider, back to Sprint/Earthlink. Took a bit of a hit in terms of = download
speed, 3Mbps vs. 4Mbps, the Sprint monthly charge was = significantly less,
plus using Earthlink as their portal is a plus. = PatMedia didn't even have
newsservers as part of their offering.

But while I was checking out some Cable HDTV stuff I noticed that = PatMedia
has significantly boosted their download and upload speeds. = Going to 12Mbps
down, 1 Mbps up in April (10M/768K until then). Screw = the newsserver, gimme
the raw bandwidth ;->

But I also checked to see what Sprint's current offerings are, 5Mbps max =
down, 640K up. But here is the kicker. PatMedia is $69.95 a month for = their
fastest service, Sprint is $59.95! Ten bucks a month for over = double the
bandwidth, can we say DUH? I knew we could ;->

Of course there is the issue of what bandwidth is really delivered. In = the
past I found that PatMedia pretty much met their max speeds amd = Sprint fell
slightly behind (using the dslreports.com speed tests). And = there is another
reason I'm pretty sure PatMedia will come up to snuff, = their distribution is
optical except for the last 100 feet.

Now here is one of John's stupid tricks! When I went back to Sprint I = still
had a couple of months left on my PatMedia contract and forgot to = discontinue
the service when the contract was over. So I just switched = to the PatMedia
cable modem and got a 4,468Kbps down and 750Kbps up. 10 = minutes earlier I
tested the Sprint connection and got 2,920K down and = forget how much I get
up. Just submitted PatMedia an on-line form to = upgrade my broadband.

But here is one of the better things about using PatMedia, of the three =
e-mail accounts I use. oellrich@earthlink.net, oellrich@patmedia.net, = and
john@oellrich.us, 100% of the SPAM comes from the Earthlink account, = so
ditching Earthlink will end up being a positive.
