Years ago I had to borrow a co-worker's car to run a short errand so I could
get my car started.  She told me it was a red Chrysler in the back parking lot
and handed me her keys.  I went out, found the red Chrysler, opened it with
her keys and ran my errand.  When I got back I gave her back her keys and
made some comment about the car.  She said that wasn't *her* car.  So in
that particular employee parking lot at the particular time there were two red
Chryslers that used the same key, and until I borrowed the wrong one of them
neither owner knew it.  The fact that a car key works in a particular car
means only that, it does not mean that the owner of the key is the owner of
the car - or vice versa.  In a similar vein, in 1960 I discovered - quite by
accident - that the front door keys of three or four adjacent houses in our
development were identical, and that any of the keys would open any of the
houses.
