Ärende: Introductions...  1B.
=============================
Ardith Hinton wrote to James Bradley, "Introductions... 1B."

Recollecting my Junior-High English studies, next we go to "1B i, 1B ii, 1B
iii..." Shoot girl... We should have started at the Roman numerals. <-;
 AH> Now, unlike you, I sit on anything *except* my
 AH>  tailbone....  ;-)

 JB> Consider yourself relatively lucky. <G&D>

 AH> I do. I have chronic pain, but it's nothing compared
 AH> to yours.  :-/

Like I've been told, pain can be such a subjective thing. I used to think I was
pretty tolerant of the day-to-day aches after a day in the yard or behind a
hammer, which probably makes my situation more tolerant than it could be. Who's
to say?

 JB> The poor MD had to lie to me that he was prescribing a
 JB> "Non-addictive form" just to get me out of his office.
 JB>  Still doesn't mean I wouldn't tear a strip off him if
 JB> we ever met again. <G> I understand his need to keep
 JB> me on my feet now, but the narcotics sure caused more
 JB> problems than they solved for me.

 AH> Yes, we've heard other stories which are remarkably
 AH> similar. One of our former writers here, for example,
 AH> developed a sensitivity to morphine when he used it for several

 AH> and her doctor told her Valium wasn't addictive. Other
 AH> doctors were saying the same thing at around the same time.
 AH> I think they honestly believed that, although recent
 AH> studies have shown otherwise. At any rate, this woman
 AH> became very ill shortly after we met. She realized after
 AH> awhile that Valium was contributing to her illness...
 AH> whereupon she joined a drug withdrawal program. As she put
 AH> it, she had to learn to cope with pain all over again
 AH> because because her body had forgotten how... (sigh).

How could I tell someone something I knew wasn't true? I doubt they didn't
think Valium was addictive, but their convoluted definitions of physical versus
mental addiction likely let them sleep at night. But that's likely my diagnosed
"Perhaps mildly paranoid" tendency. <BG> Heck... When they've been lied to as
often as I have by the profession, THEN they can reassess me. 0-8

I don't recall if I've mentioned, but I hadn't consumed a *very* small bottle
of Aspirin in the seven or so years since I bought my home. There was a LOT of
work to be done, and to say I had a lot of bumps and scrapes would be an
underestimate. Not until a sinus infection (Often an indication of malignancy
in a host.... Namely, me! :-) and two *very* reluctant wisdom tooth extractions
did I ever taste a Tylenol 3. Heck, under local anaesthesia, I had my tumour
removed, and only then did I finish the final three tablets from the Dentist.
 AH> Seems to me a lot of people's idea of "pain
 AH> management" is to find a pill which will make it all go
 AH> away so they can forget about it... but I think it is
 AH> useful in some ways. It tells us, for example, when we're
 AH> overextending ourselves or we need to see the chiropractor
 AH> or what have you.... :-)

We agree 100%.

 JB> As a co-moderator, you run your own board then?

 AH> Dallas does. I have access to the BBS, but he
 AH> takes care of all the techie stuff. He's the moderator, as
 AH> you'll see in the next few days.... :-)

Oh oh... What'd I do now? <G+D>

 AH> Fortunately, the conductor is very understanding...
 AH> he lets Nora sit beside me, and that way I can provide
 AH>  assistance as needed.  :-)

 JB>  Sounds symbiotic to me. <-;

 AH> In the sense that everybody wins, yes.... :-)

<VBG>

 JB> Like I keep telling highly trained musicians that
 JB> want to pound the bejeabers out-a some of my tools,
 JB> "They are always abrasive, and it takes a special
 JB> touch to make them sound musical." Some of them get
 JB>  it. O-8=

 AH> I hear you! And I think Nora would too.... :-)

The trick is to leave them wanting to hear more. Just like any good
performance. Maybe like any good instruction, also. ...Ah... I better shut up
now. I hear Dallas is comin' to town. <G>

... I still have a full deck, I just shuffle slower now.
