well the gui install is a seperate development team then the basic gentoo dev
team, so there is bound to be soem misstakes. the installer is a "alpha" or
wahtever they are calling it these days.  But you have to admit is a major
step in the right direction for gentoo.  On the same live cd, there is the
ncurses installer. I use this because it lets you create nice script files to
do your instrll for you.  For me it's worked each time.  No problems you
described.  However I do bare installs. I tried to add a bunch of packages to
it once to bring in apps to. The install bombed on me.
