It is *_NOT_* listed listed in the Add/Remove Programs applet (that I could
see), unless it is buried within one of the hotfixes.  I searched for the
KB873374 "signature" and "Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool".  I guess it's one
of those things that Microsoft does not want you to remove.

I think I finally found the GDI+ tool on the Microsoft site:

and I downloaded it.  The GDIDETTOOL.EXE /_will_/ /_not_/ install, either!

SIGH!  The hardware just barely supports XP (I bought it at a "Recycle
Shop" [used] and it had a 3GB HDD that had XP Pro on it) and I felt it was
better suited for Win2000.  There is no way that I'm going to put XP Pro on
this box, so let's not even mention the upcoming Vista...

I guess I don't really need the MS AntiSpyware - WindowsDefender, or else
wait until enough people whine to MS about the GDI+ problem and MS decides
to correct the oversight or tell the whiners that there is no support for
WindowsDefender on W2K computers....

The other option for me would be to capitulate and join the Linux circle.
