I had already tried that early on. I tried grasping it with pliers and
pulled straight up on it to apply some force and then turn. No go. Maybe
I did it wrong. But I figure that since that screw doesn't seem to be
doing much except maybe holding down the mobo (it's definatley not a
keyboard retaining screw), I could simply snip off the head so that I could
atleast lift off the bottom cover if ever I need to get inside.

The screw is definately metal.

Hmmm.. maybe it's time to get one of those silly USB mini-vacuums.

Your G41 probably doesn't have the "old" Rapid Restore PC tool. RRPC tool
is supposed to create an IMAGE of the existing system, plus incrementals. A
total of three "sets" of files are produced. During the initial run, RRPC
creates a "base" image file which consists of the factory installed stuff,
then the 2nd image file is the complete USER environment which includes my
own apps and data. Then the 3rd image set consists of incrementals for as
long as there is allocated space on the hdd. RRPC tool also claims to
provide the option to copy the images to CD-R. RRPC compresses to 50%.
So.. 20gig of data would be 10gig backed up which would be roughly 12 CD's.
RRPC doesn't offer the option to copy to CD's directly. I have to allocate
space on the current hdd first, do the image backups to that, and THEN
optionally copy to CD. RRPC claims it can do 1gig in 10 minutes. It's
current estimate for my set of data is 268 minutes. Bleah.

I think TI with an external usb hdd is a much better solution.

Once I get a successful backup one day, I plan to eliminate the hidden
factory partition on the TP. Afterall, what's the point of having that when
a full update image with all current apps and data has been accomplished?
Gaining the extra 5gig on the current hdd would be nice too, I think.
