Ärende: annoyance of "activation"

I would think it's better to do a clean install of W2K anyway. If you're
interested, there was an edit routine floating around that made ME look like
Win98 to the W2K installation program. It was used by folks who posted in the
W2K newsgroups at the time. I believe it involved digging into the ME registry
and changing some keys. But as I stated above, it's probably better to install
W2K clean anyway.

Going to Ubuntu\Kubuntu is a great idea provided you can live without certain
Win Apps which may not be available for Linux. Even at that, there's always
WINE and Crossover Office.

And the even more annoying Genuine Advantage which now has been incorporated
into MS Office.

Jeff reported that he was able to setup and use an OEM version of the Radeon
with Fedora. However, all the feedback I received from the Ubuntu\Kubuntu
forums advised me to stay away from that card or anything ATI.
I believe video cards like wireless adaptors are a different issue for the many
Linux distros that are available. In other words, a given card may work well
in one distro and totally crash in another.

The folks in the Ubuntu\Kubuntu forums recommend nVidia over other cards. I'm
currently using a Matrox 450G which is internally supported by Ubuntu\Kubuntu.

The latest cards I saw from ATI are designed for PCI Express. I'm not sure if
that's backward compatible with PCI or not. Perhaps now that ATI is owned by
AMD, we'll see some better support for Linux.

Regards.
