        Last evening, I redid in toto, this Thinkpad, the G41, it had
   gotten heavy and slow. Great improvement as in any redo. The Mac
   user upstairs was questioning my work. She then stated that her
   small X laptop was quite slow too. She has had no housekeeping done
   on it and it is 4+ year old. What can be done along the same line
   to this white machine ?

        I do not think so, you have a large HD, that is all.

        Good on you. Likewise, a few years ago, on eBay, I got a WiFi
   mini card for the G-41. Before I could fit this b-mode in, a friend
   gave me a g-mode PCMCIA. The b-mode is still dormant, along with
   the to be installed antennae. Yes, these snap-in connectors are
   small and delicate, easy to damage. Is yours a now obsolete g-mode
   for so cheap a price ? Still very useable for sure.

        Back to the G-41 redo. I am dazzled ! After getting the XP Pro
   screen up, took 1:45 hours to feed these 7 restore CDs, all the
   four USB ports were alive. Yeah ! After accessing the three
   previously bad ones, they got bad again, I am again left with the
   top most read one only. I get around this by using a 4 port USB
   hub.  I used it to do a TI backup of this setup, I never will have
   to spend 105 minutes doing this again, the TI backup took 12
   minutes, should take the same span to revitalize the G-41, if need
   be. I again used the 3" ERD from TI, it is all on a 20 G USB HD.

        Now to clean it up, Norton goes first, then add all the normal
   apps that I use, O2K, Checkbook, ZOC and BW, a full day ahead for
   me, more or less, but I will then have a like-new machine. Luckily,
   I have a long RJ-45 cable for all the updates from MS, the 7 CDs
   have SP2 installed.
