Ed- do you have a router (wired or wireless) connected to your DSL Modem? If
not, then all the rest of this can be ignored... i.e. if you're connecting, vis
Ethernet cable, directly from the computer to the DSL Modem. If you have more
than one computer making use of the DSL connection, presumably you have a
router- whether wired or wireless.

If your DSL Modem isn't connected to a WiFi (wireless) router (with wireless
enabled) then nearby computers can't connect to your DSL connection- unless you
have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on your computer or have set it up for
'infrastructure' wireless connections- neither of these are enabled by default,
so presumably they aren't set unless you specifically did it.

If you DO have a wireless router connected to your DSL Modem, then the steps I
described might be worth doing.

Is there some reason why you chose 192.168.0.1 ? As I said, the IP address
varies with router manufacturer.

IPCONFIG displays the address of your computer; the router's address may be
listed as the 'gateway'.... you need to try to connect (using IE or other
browser) to the router's address- not your computer's.

EV> That also says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.".

EV> I have no idea how to find the built in Wi-Fi settings in the notebook.

If you're trying to access the router's WiFi settings- to turn off WiFi or turn
on encryption, the WiFi settings in the notebook don't matter...

Like I said earlier, you seem unclear whether you want to change configuration
on a router or on a notebook or other computer.
