Alan,

I have a wired router connected to a DSL modem, a Desktop, a notebook
and a old 486 pc.

The notebook has built-in Wi-Fi.

The DSL modem isn't connected to a seperate Wi-Fi router, just to the
wired router.

I was assuming that people could get to my DSL modem by going through
the Wi-Fi connection on the notebook. I didn't know.

AZ>Is there some reason why you chose 192.168.0.1 ? As I said, the IP address

I have been guessing about what IP address that I have used.

I just went to Firefox and found out that 192.168.1.1 is the correct IP
for the Linksys router here.

Oh well, Eds head always has needed some fine tuning. ;-)

AZ>IPCONFIG displays the address of your computer; the router's address may be

I used IPCONFIG on the Vista notebook, I hadn't tried it on the XP box
yet.

I just tried it and the 192.168.1.1 is shown as the Default Gateway
address, it is also the DHCP setting.

AZ> EV> That also says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.".

I didn't know that.

I thought that I had to try to access the internal Wi-Fi adapter inside
the notebook just like I have accessed the wired router from the XP
desktop.

Yes, I am learning some new to me things with the newly acquired
notebook.

One other thought, since this is (was) my brothers first computer I have
no idea what settings he may have changed in the 9 months he had it.

For instance, when he saw "Press F2 ....." on the opening screen, that
is exactly what he did.

He even set a BIOS password, and if he hadn't remembered it so he could
tell me I would have been locked out of the BIOS.

I have been going through it trying to remove the games he has installed
and trying to learn if any settings he has made needed resetting to my
preferences.

Thanks for bearing with me here.
