In general, people can't get to your DSL connection through your notebook's
wireless connection- but if it's not being used, you might as well turn off the
notebook's wireless... if nothing else, it's a major battery drain when on
battery power.

That's been the case for the Linksys routers that I've had. A Microsoft router
used 192.168.2.1. My Apple Airport Extreme, however, uses 10.0.1.1 by default.

If you had a WiFi router, in most cases, the wireless settings (encryption,
etc) would be accessed in the same way you can access the settings of your
wired router- if it is a Linksys model, for instance, by browsing to
192.168.1.1 and entering the log-in information.

Psychiatrists tell a story about a (probably mythical) patient who had to stop
and knock at every door he passed that had a 'Please knock before entering'
sign.

I've gotten a number of donated systems with password-locked BIOSs with unknown
passwords. A pain!
