winamp and/or WMP AFAIK...

the problem that lead to installing iTunes was that copying the mp3 files to
his iPod didn't work and it wouldn't read them... i don't know what else as i
wasn't there... he called me and asked me to pull down the iTunes install for
him because he found out from someone/where that "you have to use iTunes to put
your media on the iPod"... now, how true that is, i cannot say... it may be
possible that a specific directory layout was needed (kinda like some of the
camera cards have on them) or possibly a setup switch that he could have
flipped so it would read and play mp3s... again, IDK as i wasn't there when he
was beating on it the day he got it...

yeah, i don't keep up with all of it unless i'm having to work with it... a
regular mp3 player was out of the question as he had 40+Gig of music he wanted
on the iPod... most mp3 players that i know of didn't have that kind of storage
and he kinda also wanted one of those iPods... the one he got was their largest
at that time with some 80Gig of storage...
