I found out about the hives on my first attempt at Regedt32 on the W2K
system.

My absence from the echo was because I wanted to devote some time to go
through all the configurations -- NIC, router, Internet connection, mail
client, etc., and see if I could recover the original NIC IP address
automatically.  I may have missed something major because nothing has
changed.  It is _almost_ like there is a 'hidden' proxy on the system that
is blocking my every attempt to access the Inet / mail client, and I
checked out all the running processes.

New HDD and reinstall of Win2K, next week or two!

No small children here, but it's not rebooting every 45 minutes (it would
be a blessing if it did) and other than the fact there's no internet, it
will connect to the XP (but not vice versa) and I can transfer files, so
it's not totally useless...  It's just annoying the Bejesus out of me!  :-(
