Ärende: Whatever & Clones.
==========================
Tom, about your first message :

TW> NOT True using Acrnos True Image. Don't know aboptu hte Other
TW> Clone/Image programs. IF you do an Image File of the Hard Drive it is ASLL
There, Prograsm,
TW> Data, Registry, Boot sector ect.

How can this be, Tom, if it is not bootable as a clone is ?

TW> Doing a Full restore puts it ALL Back!! NO reinstaling the OS, NO
TW> medssing with the Registry etc. Now you can pick and choose to restore
Data and other self contained
 TW> programs if necessary.

I obviously missed a point from you when we last discussed this. I remember
you saying that it would not boot from a BU. Do light my candle.

TW> But as you say, To Each his Own. Adn for one with a dozen $10 Hard
TW> Drives I can see how a Clone cound be perfered. Particualrly as
TW> after a Hard Frive total failure a simple Drive swap can put you
TW> back up and operating in Minutes.

Yes, a clone is bootable as it includes all, bit for bit, from the source
device. You keep maintaining that a BU also does, quote:

TW> Doing a Full restore puts it ALL Back!! NO reinstaling the OS, NO
TW> medssing with the Registry etc.

Your line above ! I can not vouch for this in a BU as I have never done a BU,
I know that a clone does it. If your BU will not boot, it is missing something.
I would like to know.

	Here is your 2nd message.

TW> Actauly As I recall it Clones Sector by Sector. But stil you only need a
TW> little larger HD then reported in Dard Drive Properties.

My recollection is that it copies bit-for-bit all that is on the source, not
the empty sectors and thus needs be only large enough to accept the data on the
source. I use here 160 Gs HDs to clone a 250 Gs source.

TW> On my old Gateway it was like that but the newer Netbooks are NOT. The
TW> HD is buried soemwghare under the keyboard and major disassemble is
TW> required. In my Acer EePC I cannot even see how to open the case. There
TW> are no screws to be seen.

Sorry to hear this, Tom. A HD that can be swapped easy is an added quality to
a laptop. As you can see, I play around with old machines as all my laptops
have good access to their HDs. My 13 months old Toshiba needs two small screws
to be removed and it even has a slotted recess to pry the HD up and away.

TW> Incidently the latest PC Wrold Magazine has a review of the UltraBook
TW> computers(Mac Air Clones) and the best ones are quite close to the MAC
TW> prices. That says something to me, IE: the Mac Air is NOT as overpriced
TW> as the PC lovers try to make it. One thing soem of thenm did to hold the
TW> price does was to short change you on Battery Running time. Something
 TW> very important to some.

This might make me move my tirades to these too, they are much more capable
than the average users need. Hey ! I am no ace, I do not do any programming nor
gaming and I can do quite well with $400.00 machines and even some free ones. I
do recognize that this is me and my way of using all this fine binary world, I
can not and will not speak for the world at large no matter how rich they are.
Hooots ! ;-)

I still have not acquired a tablet, I will not be a slave to this technical
achievement.
