HN> Ok, the next time I go down to visit Amanda, I'm looking for this girl
HN> and volunteering to sit down and try some of her "studies" (grin)!

With my luck I'd be stuck with Gorgonzola and Mateus.

=

HN> Looks good on paper, er...on the screen....but like you said above, 2c
HN> and 10 seconds inserts reality into the equations and often the
HN> answers are uh, less than stellar? It would seem to me that using an
HN> appropriate noodle like a buckwheat soba perhaps would have been a
HN> better choice...even chowmein noodles would have been better!

Chow mein noodles would have been a ton better, as they would at
least have been edible.

Of course, garnishes were not always meant to be edible - see the
weird and wonderful centerpieces and plate adornments from the
classic French banquet tables. And even pate en croute - the stuff
on the outside, a simple flour-water paste brushed with egg so
it wouldn't look pale and disgusting, wasn't meant to be ingested,
but so many people (American tourists, according to the books)
ate it anyhow that nowadays the crust is usually a decent brioche
dough, which has less utility in the sealing in the juices
department but which isn't so gross if eaten.

HN> shot a wide assortment of weapons from an authentic .22 caliber long
HN> pistol made by Ned Buntline, a sharps buffalo gun (.45 70), and a .460
HN> weatherby, to .22caliber custom built long range target rifles. my
HN> very favorite guns of all time? A .303

I've held but I think not shot an Enfield (father used to collect
military firearms, as you can guess). My favorites were the .222
Sako, a rifle that was beautiful if you can call a weapon that;
the .30 short M1 Carbine version, a useless weapon for combat
but the only larger-caliber weapon that didn't kick like a horse
and didn't make my ears ring; and the tubular magged Winchester
I think 72, whose main advantage was that if you just wanted to
go plinking, you could load up many, many .22 shorts in the
magazine; my father, basing his judgment on what he read, always
bought .22 LR, because of its superior power and accuracy, never
mind that you didn't need any of that for the kind of 50-yard-max
shooting that I did. I liked .22 shorts, they made less noise
than a capgun. Also liked - for their looks - the Winchester 94,
which looked like the Wild West with its lever, and the 70, which
chambered at .243 or .270 was probably the best combination of
accuracy and power that you could get at the time. As you can
tell, my father, having read that Winchesters were the best rifles,
wouldn't be caught dead with a Remington or anything lesser. And
as you can also tell, my reasons for liking a weapon are pretty
idiosyncratic in themselves.

HN> enfield sniper rifle from pre WWII;one of the most accurate none
HN> scoped rifles I've ever fired, and berreta double barreled skeet gun
HN> that was the most comfortable weapon I've ever held!

For me that honor goes to the Sako.

      Title: Wire Sculpure
 Categories: Misc.
      Yield: 1 servings

           Stiff wire Wood bases
           Thin wire Staple gun

Have child decide on a subject for their sculpture. Help them make a base
form from the stiff wire. Then have them wrap the form with the thin wire
until he or she is satified with the shape. Staple form to a wooden base
with staple gun. (coat hanger wire works well for a base, and something
like phone wire works great as the thinner wire.)
