===================
Hi Janis,

JK> won't > get it; I don't need that on top of everything else.

JK> Agreed! Last thing you need right now, that's for sure. This one was
JK> kind of funny.. as I mentioned to Hap, my daughter's oldest decided
JK> that he didn't want to be homeschooled any longer so this semester he
JK> started in the public school.. which is great for him in that he is so
JK> far advanced compared to his
JK> classmates.. except that learning at home and meeting with a few
JK> friends during the week doesn't give you the same kind of exposure to
JK> colds and flus like the schools do :) so of course he got the flu,
JK> and brought it home to his brothers and mom and dad - and then they
JK> brought it over here.. oh well.. it's that time of year.

Nothing like sharing the germs. My older brother shared the chicken pox
and measles with the 3 of us (last one wasn't born yet) kids at home
when he started school. Rachel gave the chicken pox to her sister and
the 2 neighbor girls I was baby sitting. We'd talked about home
schooling our girls but the support wasn't there in the early 80s like
there is now. So, they went to public school and...............we
supplimented with library visits, computers, local newspapers, magazine
subscriptions, etc.

JK> > But, we are well

JK> Yes, we're always well stocked on teas.. Ron is a big fan of tea
JK> actually. I like it also, but really prefer to start the day with
 JK> plenty of coffee.

I don't drink coffee at all; Steve does much less than what he used to.
At home it's always tea.

JK> > I've lived in the south long enough, gee, how long has it been?

JK> We lived there for only 7 years.. a drop in the hat, really.

That's less time than I lived in NC before Steve went into the Army. It
was about 8 years then, 2 1/2 in TX, 8 in AZ and so far, 1 1/2 in GA for
the mainland. Add in another 5 1/2 for HI. Long enough to appreciate
good southern cooking; I made Brunswick stew for supper last night. It's
from a Paula Deen cook book but uses all chicken vs a chicken/pork mix.
It's a "do again" so the recipe will be posted here in the next few
days.

>> 'frige that we'll put right in the island, and also a dishwasher that
>> is actually made of two drawers you pull out and fill .. each draw has
>> a rack/drain, etc. in it, so you can say wash dishes/glasses in one

JK> > I've seen them on tv; they look interesting. Does the dishwasher
JK> hold > as much as a standard one or more? I generally wash pots & pans
JK> by hand > but sometimes have lots of "regular" dishes & my standard
JK> dishwasher is > rather full. We generally run it every couple of
JK> days, every day over > the week end, unless I've gone on a cooking
JK> spell. Then it gets run as > it gets full.

JK> Yes, it does.. or it's supposed to :) I think it will end up holding
JK> more, to be honest, given the parts on my current dishwasher that you
JK> cannot block. On each basket on my current dishwasher there is a spot
JK> where water passes that you can't block with cups, or bowls, etc.. the
JK> new dishwasher avoids that.. You sound like you run your dishwasher

Good; it's something we may want to look into if we ever get our own
place. Right now we're not allowed to do things like that. (G)

JK> about like I do.. every couple of days.. unless I've been cooking
JK> something special, or if the kids were here for dinner, etc.. when
JK> they come, I do have a full load (sometimes a few (g)).

Yes, I ran it last night after the cooking I did. Tonight it wll not run
but will on Saturday (mental note to check Jet Dry for commissary list).

JK> >I should be getting a new quilting frame/machine either
JK> > tomorrow or Friday; we'll both have new "toys" to play with over the

JK> That's neat - some of them can up there, is it a big one? and yes,
JK> new toys for the weekend :)

The machine is a Juki, industrial type. That came in yesterday; the
rest will probably come on Monday. It's a framework that gets set on a
table (like a banquet table) with the machine in it. It's a step between
a home sewing machine and a long arm quilting machine.

JK> > My BIL didn't have a chance with those two pie vultures.

JK> Lol! but still a testament to your good pies :)

I guess so. (G) Steve enjoys them too.

JK> were in > their late teens) because he didn't have all the home made
 JK> cookies I
JK> > used to do at Christmas or the year round goodies.

JK> Sounds like my house when my sisters were married, etc.. they'd come
JK> by and say hmm.. what's to eat today, c'mon we know you always have

That's where it's an advantage to live a good distance away from
relatives. (G)

JK> something good here! :) I think that was when I'd just gotten the
JK> kitchenaid and of course I had to experiment a lot :) :) Matter of
JK> fact, I remember making a twisted yeast bread, with raisin, nut
JK> filling for my mom.. she brought it to work to share with her
JK> co-workers and she told me that she had orders for 22 more of them,
JK> because they wanted to buy one no matter what... I laughed so hard!
JK> And then I got to work. I did that ONCE (g). That was enough for me

Not even calling you to see if you would do it first? I'd probably shut
everything else down and go into overdrive production for a few days,
getting it all done. At least that's what I'd probably have done at one
time; now just the thought of it is tiring.

JK> > the small one. Took a long time to use it up too. Last night I
JK> made a > "throw together, use up what's on hand that needs using"
 JK> chili. Had
JK> > about 1/3 of a pound of buffalo (ground) meat in the freezer so I
JK> used > that. Since it's so lean, I grabbed a small thing of chcken fat
JK> I had in > the fridge and used a couple of tablespoons of that to
JK> brown the meat, > pepper and onion. Came out pretty good. (G)

JK> I bet :) Often I'll use bacon fat.. or pork fat if that's around or
JK> chicken fat.. depends on what I have on hand. Most times though I
JK> guess I use olive oil though for anything that isn't "pie" ..

>> CONTINUED IN NEXT MESSAGE <<

The thought of olive oil did cross my mind but as I was pulling stuff
out of the fridge, I saw this thing of chicken fat that I had on hand.
Couldn't tell much in the taste but it did add a different dimension to
the chili.
