=====================
Hi Janis,

JK> > Just a little? Seems like that's the norm around here. Tonight
JK> about > 5:30 I realised I needed to pull something together for
JK> From > the fridge I got out a couple of eggs, flour, the usual
JK> Italian herbs, a > bit each of green bell pepper and onion, provelone
 JK> and parmisan cheeses

JK> I'd use a good mozzarella if I had it for that.. to my tastes,
JK> provelone is a bit strong (g).. but in a pinch, I'd use whatever I had

It was a slightly different, but not bad taste. Same family, just a bit
stronger. OTOH, the smoked gouda I got last week would not have worked
at all.

JK> > & the small eggplant we got last week at the farm stand. Other
JK> stuff > included garlic powder, salt & pepper, canola and olive oils.
JK> I pulled > together a quick eggplant parmisan with tubular shaped
 JK> pasta on the

JK> Sounds very good :) In Middletown NY, Ron and I used to get Eggplant
JK> Parmigian hero sandwiches. I still make them for us if I've got a pan
JK> of leftowver eggplant parmigian. It's so good cold :)

I've never tried it as a sandwich.  I'll have to keep that in mind;
usually when I make eggplant parmisan, there's enough left over to feed
a small army (or so it seems). This time it was just right for 2 meals
for the 2 of us. Had the left overs with a green salad.

JK> > side. From start to eating was about 75 minutes and there's enough
JK> > eggplant left over for another meal. A few of the slices got a bit
JK> over > done in the browning (one coil heats a bit hotter than the
JK> others) but > not enough to affect the taste. I don't want to do that
JK> every night but > it tasted good tonight. Steve cleaned up the cast
JK> iron fry pan I used

JK> Now that the work is done in making it, you can enjoy the leftovers
 JK> (g).

We did, and it's all history. (G) Just wish it froze better. It's
usually a lot forjust 2 people but when I tried freezing left overs
once, they didn't come out as good as the first go around.

JK> > to brown the eggplant in; the dishwasher got most of the other
JK> dishes > and hand wash ones were minimal.

JK> Today for lunch I made Pizza with pesto, tomato and parmigiana cheese.
JK> The pesto is one I made a few days ago when I found that large bag of
JK> Basil in the freezer.. the 2nd pizza I made had pesto, tomato and
JK> leftover sausages from a pot of sauce I'd made earlier in the week.
JK> We only ate the pesto and tomato and cheese one for lunch today. I
JK> think we'll eat the 2nd one for dinner later (grin).

That'll work--cook twice, eat once.

>> True.. last time we were there they had them though.. Should be
>> getting the car back today or tomorrow :) We better, at least (g).

 JK> > They didn't give you a loaner?

 JK> No, doubt they have them (g). This isn't a dealership.. it's a small
 JK> repair shop in Windsor.

Sigh! Sometimes they have old "beater" cars they can loan out.

>> wall to the other kitchen on the first floor to make that all one
>> living space - it was really just a piece of wallboard behind the door

JK> > Somebody had a limited budget and imagination when the place was
 JK> made > into apartments. (G)

JK> I don't know, they seemed to know what they were doing in some places,
JK> and certainly not at all in other ones (grin). I have a feeling the
JK> areas that were done "right" were done by repair/remodeling services
JK> or local carpenters.. that kind of thing.

And thoe that weren't done right were done by somebody who just wanted
to make a few dollars in rent money.

>> thought about selling this huge house and buying a smaller one in
>> Ithaca, but we're not sure about moving there because it _is_ colder
>> there and they get quite a bit more snow than we do here, just an hour
>> away.

JK> > Advantage--close to grandsons and less area to clean.

 JK> Yep and yep :)

 JK> > Disadvantages--no
JK> > room for a garden, colder weather, more snow, etc, etc.

JK> I've been watching.. there are some houses in the city of Ithaca with
JK> actual acreage (g).. Not a lot as large as ours here in Windsor (it's
JK> just over an acre here) but at least 1/2 acre. That would be about
JK> the size of the fenced in yard here.. You don't see them often, but
JK> they show up now and again.

JK> So all we have to hope for would be long warm summers (think not (g)).

I think you got yourself a nice place there. (G)

 JK> > Still, having
JK> > the big house gives you lots of options. Being a live in landlord
JK> is no > fun; ask clean Dave about it. Room to spread all your
 JK> projects, for
JK> > cats, dogs and grandkids to roam and run--priceless.

JK> That's about how I feel about it :) we think about fixing up a real
JK> 'spare bedroom upstairs as well.. could be handy :) We'll have to
JK> wait on that idea though.. darn car really cleaned us out :(

It'll come in time. Same as we will be in some place a bit bigger at
some point in time. Even a couple hundred extra square feet and a car
port would be nice.

>> Ok, understand. Those Italian ceramic tiles were finished somewhat,
>> but not colored so I always thought they would be considered 'glazed'.
>> I could be wrong though (grin).

JK> > Any paint is glaze, if it's clear or colored.

JK> Yep, these were a sandstone color (naturally, it seemed) and the glaze
 JK> was clear I'd expect.

So, not the unglazed quarry tile. Maybe we need to check smaller
stores.
