===================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Very much so. Steve was introduced to Fido by a fellow computer user
RH> about a year after we got to AZ. He started reading Cooking, then
RH> asked me to take over as he had too many other things going on. I've
RH> been in this echo since late January, 1994.

NB> He still wanted a finger in the pot, hunh? ;) It does indeed seem a
NB> nice echo to keep ties with. :) My introduction to echos was from my

He re-joined the Cooking echo after the picnic last year. Too many
inside jokes I guess, plus he saw the camaradery of this group.

NB> interest in genealogy, and my son pointing out that genealogy echoes
NB> existed. Nowadays those echoes have mostly dried up, but I've stayed
NB> in the Fido scene with echoes such as MEMORIES, and now COOKING.

I was active in the Crafting and Sewing echoes while they exsisted but
now Cooking is the only one I'm really into.

RH> Too bad; I've read some about how spouses are given tours and other
RH> things while the (husbands) are in meetings, then they all get back

NB> I heard of those, too... but never experienced one... At least
NB> Richard didn't go on many business trips, maybe 2-3 in all the time he

But, he got a bit of a chance to travel. One of my BILs has taken a
number of nice trips (work related) for Kodak, mostly to European
countries.

NB> NB>> genealogy conference near Philly... and had a friend that was
 NB> going
RH> That must have been interesting.

NB> It was. It was her first time at a conference like that, I'd been
NB> before, but it's always fun to do... Lots to learn, and it attracts
NB> very interesting vendors as well. Plus, it's fun and encouraging to
NB> be with lots of people doing the same things you do. :)

Did you try a Philly cheeesesteak sandwich while you were there? I
didn't either time I visited--with family in 66 and class trip in 71. On
the latter, tho, I did get a big soft pretzel.(G)

NB> NB>> I can see that. :) I had much the same experience, culturally
NB> NB>> anyway, in the genealogy echoes when they were active,

RH> A common core makes a good group. You've been here long enough that
RH> you would feel right at home at the picnic. It would be like seeing
RH> family you hadn't seen for a while.

NB> My very first genealogy conference was in Baltimore... and I had
NB> already been active in the GENEALOGY echo for a while. The best part
 NB> of that*
NB> conference was meeting in person the friends (especially from that
NB> area, as they came in droves, and had been very active in fido as
 NB> well) from
NB> the echo. We definitely had the feeling of meeting family. I had had
NB> to go alone to that conference, but didn't feel alone for very long...
NB> it only lasted until I found the first of my friends from the echo!

Going out to eat together and that sort of thing?

NB> I suspect that even if I hadn't popped in here, I'd've felt at home at
NB> your picnic, since I already know a number of the participants from
NB> other parts of Fido. :) But, by popping in, I get to meet more of
NB> you ahead of time... (G)

Yes, and some of us are even more of a character in person--but I'll
leave it to you to figure out who. (G)

RH> Planning to be. (G) It won't be for our anniverary this year, nor my
RH> birthday. We're going to find some place in western NY for the

NB> Apparently your birthday is in, say, late July? :)

It's the same day as Janis's daughter. (G)

RH> Same here. It's not the cost of the meal but the company you are with
RH> that makes it enjoyable. There was a group of about 4 core couples,
 NB> .. (snipped) ..
RH> lived). We'd shove tables togeter; the men would have one end and the
RH> ladies the other and have a bit to eat plus a lot of chatter. Sure do
 RH> miss tht!

NB> I imagine you do... Good companionship is a treasure...

And we did have some good times! Some of us went to UofH sports events
and got garlic fries with extra garlic as part of supper. Just the
thing to have on your breath for churchthe next morning! (G)

NB> I can't think of any time that the cost of the meal would be the most
NB> important factor, for me anyway... particularly the idea that the more
NB> it cost the better it would be... :) The quality of the food, and,
NB> yes, the company are what make it enjoyable and worthwhile. :)

Very much so!

Catch you later,
Ruth
