Hi Janis,

JK> > Planning on it, had another not so popular exam today and came thru
JK> with > an excellent report.

JK> Glad to hear about the excellent report :)

Same here; I was a bit worried as I'd had some trouble about 10 years
ago but it appears to have cleared up.

JK> > Dr. said with the family history, it shold be done
JK> > every 5 (ugh!!!!!) to 10 (ugh!!) years. Talked to my dad after and
JK> he > saidhis dr. wants it every 3 years (ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

JK> Better to be careful I would think.

Yes, I know. I suspect I'm the only one of my siblings that has medical
work done on a regular basis--and I still get surprises every so often.

JK> > better. Still, I imagine you were quite worried--and rightfully so.

JK> Yes, it's been up and down the last several days.. literally.. Finally
JK> this evening some relatively good news.. It has been determined that
JK> she has an obstruction in small intestine, so the doctor is going to

Good news/bad news kind of thing. You now know what it is but the
treatment may not be the most enjoyable.

JK> try to solve the problem with a liquid diet rather than surgery (best
JK> news I've heard all week (g)). Believe me, there were a few times

Better a liquid diet than an IV one.

JK> when all of us thought the worst given the info we were getting
JK> (really aggravating..) Well, things are looking up now thank goodness.

Last spring/sumer my dad had a series of medical problems so I know what
you're going thru. It's hard to be so far away; you want to be there
with your parents when something like this happens. But, thru God's
grace, we (and they) keep on going.

JK> > I know; I've had lots of days like that in the various places we've

JK> Yeah, it's bad. And because I was on this wonderful drug at the time,
JK> (which the doc took me off, thank goodness) the combination of the
JK> drug and the heat made it impossible to walk at all.. literallly.. :(
JK> By the time I got to Cornell/Med. Center NYHosp. I was quite a mess. I
JK> call that a sucessful visit if I can off a nasty drug (bg).

That is good to hear. I wish I could get off my pharmacy but.....one of
these days I will.........forever.

>> came by for the 4th of July :) There is a whole at the top of the
>> bucket that if you over fill it, will spill out the overflow, but I
>> don't overfill it to that point.

JK> > Could be my mom did over fill it?

JK> Could be.. I remember there was a cork they gave you to plug that
JK> hole, but I lost it long long ago ... no doubt so did your mom.. Maybe
JK> I used a different cork last summer, but I don't remember doing that.

Aha! I don't remember anything about a cork or stopper. Could be there
was one but if so, she probably lost it.

>> icecream.. eventually it hardens though.. but it's not the same
>> texture.. :( I guess it's kind of re-frozen and it's 'ruined'.. :)

JK> > But, it's cold and tastes good--that's what counts. BTW, the couple
JK> of > times we've made it this summer, we've put a sheet of plastic
JK> wrap right > on the ice cream after pouring it into the container we
JK> freeze it in. It > seems to keep the ice crystals from forming. I
JK> know, we can freeze it > in the can but the other container is easier
 JK> to scoop from.

JK> I don't freeze it in the container I make it in because it would be
JK> awkward.. the cylander for the wooden bucket is very very long, and
JK> the other ice cream maker probably container really can't be sealed.

Our canister has a separate plastic lid but it doesn't look like it
would seal very well. Besides, if we put the ice cream into something
else, we can make another batch faster. (G) Steve was looking for the
bowl for the finished ice cream last week--thought I'd not gotten one
out. I showed him that yes, it was right by the recipe.

JK> So, no big deal, I always have another tub to move it into.. works for
JK> me (g). With the wooden bucket maker, you don't see so much of the
JK> crystal stuff.. unless the ice cream melts and re-freezes.. but I'll
JK> try your idea and see if it makes a difference. Could help :)

Can't hurt.

>> > Until something newer in technology comes out, like blu-ray.
>> haha.. yep.. more new toys for the grandchildren.. or for the hubby I

JK> > Yes; can you imagine? My mom's dad passed away 50 years ago this
JK> year; > he would probably have had fun with some of this technology.
JK> He was an > investment banker on Wall Street so he could afford the
 JK> latest and
 JK> > greatest "toys".

 JK> Pretty cool :)

But he couldn't handle simple home repairs; my mom said that her
grandfather (who lived nearby) knew to bring his tool box whenever he
was invited for dinner.

JK> >I do like being able to taste the
JK> > other parts of my meal too. (G)

JK> hahahahahaha that is so true :)

But, there are some that think that the hotter it is, the better it
tastes. Bleurgh!

>> from me.. :( I could probably throw some seed in now.. might make
>> it.. we're back down to 60's again for the next 7 days..(what weird
>> weather :( :( ).. I give up on my garden this year!

 JK> > Sounds like my dad. (G)

JK> Well, I got the chinese cabbage in, the cold wave gave in to the heat
 JK> wave, the seedlings didn't make it ... and I've been busy...so I think
JK> I purchase some chinese cabbage :) :) My cukes are coming up though..
JK> so that something.. aggraving year for the garden, but there's still
JK> quite a bit of summer to go yet..

Dad hasn't given up either but he is somewhat frustrated by the crazy
weather and the fact he can't do as much as he feels he can do.
