====================================================================
Hey Ruth!

-> ->  HN> Good photography is all about planning...so it's more
-> -> HN> about being at the right place well BEFORE the right
-> ->  HN> time!
->
-> -> I'm thinking of some shots I've seen that have been off the cuf, no
-> -> planning whatsoever but have turned out to be jaw dropping
spectacular.
-> -> Prepositioning yourself can give a better chance of getting some, but
-> -> not always.
->
-> HN> Planning beats not planning 99.99% of the time.
-> HN> Most "off the cuff" shots are not nearly
-> HN> so "off the cuff". When I shoot a sunrise in
-> HN> the mountains, I am in position with my gear
-> HN> set up at LEAST an hour before the sun is
-> HN> gonna show up...just because you never know
->  HN> what's going to happen once you're there.
->
-> As long as you watch out for bears. (G) My folks had their annual (or so
-> it seems) spring destruction of their bird feeder from the local
-> nusiance bear coming out of hibernation. And, I was reading, the
-> governor of Vermont had a run in with 4 bears as he was trying to save
-> his bird feeders.
->
While we were down in San Diego
we saw a report of a black bear
(and a good sized one too!!) loose
in a suburban neighborhood (LA I think)
and there was this guy walking along
texting on his cellphone...he looks
up and all he see's is BEAR!! He
beat a hasty retreat!!

-> Seriously, I know you have to plan prior to shooting photos; I remember
-> all the work my dad would do to set up just to get a (pre) Christmas
-> picture of us kids. One time when we were supposed to say "cheese", my
-> sister below me said "spaghetti" and he got her right in the middle of
-> the "P" pucker on the test shot. He was not happy.
->
There are tricks to getting good
portraits, and planning is one
of them. Nothing worse than
standing around while the photog
tries to figure out what the next
shot will be! Old shooters saying:
"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

-> -> HN> Both of us very seldom do a
-> ->  HN> carbonated soda anymore. Even
->
-> -> I've cut way back from when it was 2 a day, every day, day in/out.
Now
-> -> it's maybe 2-3 a week, sometimes much less than that. Mostly water,
then
-> -> tea (iced, sweet or hot, sweet), soy milk and of course, my morning
-> -> orange juice.
->
-> HN> Anne and I are in San Diego this week.
-> HN> And the hotel we are staying has a free
-> HN> happy hour from 5:30-7:30pm each day with
-> HN> free drinks...including soft drinks for kids
-> HN> and so far we have not even gone by the soft
->  HN> drinks.
->
-> Tried others? I'd probably go for juice or something of that sort.
->
Never did try a carbonated drink
at the hotel, I did have a couple of
gin bloody mary's during the course
of the week, and Anne had a tropical
fruit rum punch. The bloody mary was
quite well made for a "manager's
reception" sort of bar. Some tried
to slurp up the freebie's from 5:30
when it started till 7:30 when the
shutters got closed...one was enough
for Anne and I.
I did have a double scotch one night
though.
->
-> -> (sorgum)
-> -> HN> I use it as if it were a syrup like
-> -> HN> maple syrup. Never have used it in a
-> -> HN> drink. I have used it to replace
-> ->  HN> honey in some recipes.
->
-> -> I tried it in bread baking a couple of times but without a lot of
-> -> success. Maybe I need to keep at it. We keep some in a honey bear;
-> -> actually we've got 3 bears in the kitchen. Brown bear is sorgum,
honey
-> -> bear (self explanitory) and black bear for molasses.
->
The only molasses I've ever had was
from Sorghum..I've had it from a lighter
color than honey to a thick dark strongly
flavored molasses.

-> -> HN> We like our little "secret spots" too!
->
-> -> How many have we read about on Fido? (G)
->
->  HN> Gosh, I don't know for sure...I've
-> HN> been here so long I'm pretty sure
-> HN> each one has been mentioned more
->
-> By now you have probably read the note I wrote to Michael last night,
-> describing the Korean place we went to. First time visit for us but
-> hopefully not the last time; it was good food!
->
Have not seen it, but I've been skimming
the echo as things are a bit busy these
days.
->
-> HN> than once. At this point I'm pretty
-> HN> sure I've been in the cooking echo
-> HN> longer than anyone else here.
->
-> I came on about the end of January, 1994. Michael & Dale were on
-> already; I think xxCarol came on not too long after, or maybe just
-> before, I did. We'd been in AZ about a year so Fido has moved with me
-> from AZ to HI to GA to NC to ?? next.
->
I joined in the mid 80's when the
original moderator was still running
the echo. Rich something was his name
and he lived in the Denver area. Went
through several other mods before
Joann in Portland was in charge.
Went to our first Echo Picnic there
and met Dale and Gail for the first
time. Honestly cannot remember who
else was there for that one!
Chat with you soon!
