====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> HN> gonna show up...just because you never know
->  HN> what's going to happen once you're there.

-> As long as you watch out for bears. (G) My folks had their annual (or so
-> it seems) spring destruction of their bird feeder from the local
-> nusiance bear coming out of hibernation. And, I was reading, the
-> governor of Vermont had a run in with 4 bears as he was trying to save
-> his bird feeders.

 HN> While we were down in San Diego
 HN> we saw a report of a black bear
 HN> (and a good sized one too!!) loose
 HN> in a suburban neighborhood (LA I think)
 HN> and there was this guy walking along
 HN> texting on his cellphone...he looks
 HN> up and all he see's is BEAR!! He
 HN> beat a hasty retreat!!

I think I would have too. In the case of the VT governor, they think he
got between a mama & her babies. The bear that gets my parent's bird
feeder I think does it out of hunger plus, I think, to see if he can
outsmart their attempts to outsmart him. The latest attempt by my dad to
outsmart the bear lasted one spring, last year. This year the bear won,
again. He didn't quite knock the pole down that has the feeder on it but
knocked it to quite an angle. Two years ago after the bear destroyed it,
Dad sank the pole with 240 pounds of concrete so you know it was one
strong (and hungry) bear that did it in.

-> Seriously, I know you have to plan prior to shooting photos; I remember
-> all the work my dad would do to set up just to get a (pre) Christmas
-> picture of us kids. One time when we were supposed to say "cheese", my
-> sister below me said "spaghetti" and he got her right in the middle of
-> the "P" pucker on the test shot. He was not happy.
 HN> ->
 HN> There are tricks to getting good
 HN> portraits, and planning is one
 HN> of them. Nothing worse than
 HN> standing around while the photog
 HN> tries to figure out what the next
 HN> shot will be! Old shooters saying:
 HN> "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

That's something Steve quoted quite a few times once he hit senior NCO
status too, expecially when he was serving as a First Sergeant. (G) Dad
always wanted to do the test shot which took time, making us more
"testy" but we had to go along with it. He started doing the annual
photo the year my older brother was born; the last one he took was the
year before Steve and I got married.

-> HN> and so far we have not even gone by the soft
->  HN> drinks.

-> Tried others? I'd probably go for juice or something of that sort.

 HN> Never did try a carbonated drink
 HN> at the hotel, I did have a couple of
 HN> gin bloody mary's during the course
 HN> of the week, and Anne had a tropical
 HN> fruit rum punch. The bloody mary was
 HN> quite well made for a "manager's
 HN> reception" sort of bar. Some tried
 HN> to slurp up the freebie's from 5:30
 HN> when it started till 7:30 when the
 HN> shutters got closed...one was enough
 HN> for Anne and I.
 HN> I did have a double scotch one night
 HN> though.

I'd have gone for the fruit punch without the rum, especially if it had
fresh fruit in it.

-> -> bear (self explanitory) and black bear for molasses.

 HN> The only molasses I've ever had was
 HN> from Sorghum..I've had it from a lighter
 HN> color than honey to a thick dark strongly
 HN> flavored molasses.

We mostly use regular molasses; tried some unsulphered once and that was
enough. (G)

->  HN> Gosh, I don't know for sure...I've
-> HN> been here so long I'm pretty sure
-> HN> each one has been mentioned more

-> By now you have probably read the note I wrote to Michael last night,
-> describing the Korean place we went to. First time visit for us but
-> hopefully not the last time; it was good food!

 HN> Have not seen it, but I've been skimming
 HN> the echo as things are a bit busy these
 HN> days.

In a nutshell--most authentic according to a Korean classmate of mine.
Steve concurred and we do plan to go back. Started with 9 different
small sides put down, as we were eating, a 10th was added and a couple
were replenished. Didn't go away hungry.

-> HN> than once. At this point I'm pretty
-> HN> sure I've been in the cooking echo
-> HN> longer than anyone else here.

-> I came on about the end of January, 1994. Michael & Dale were on
-> already; I think xxCarol came on not too long after, or maybe just
-> before, I did. We'd been in AZ about a year so Fido has moved with me
-> from AZ to HI to GA to NC to ?? next.

 HN> I joined in the mid 80's when the
 HN> original moderator was still running
 HN> the echo. Rich something was his name
 HN> and he lived in the Denver area. Went
 HN> through several other mods before
 HN> Joann in Portland was in charge.
 HN> Went to our first Echo Picnic there
 HN> and met Dale and Gail for the first
 HN> time. Honestly cannot remember who
 HN> else was there for that one!

So you are indeed, one of the old timers. (G)
