The Star Trek series Deep Space 9 did a continuing storyline and developed the
characters rather well, I thought. The others - from the "original" to the
"Next Generation" and finally at "Voyager" were not as well written, nor (to
me) as interesting. Others seemed to think well of it as well. It lasted for 9
seasons on CBS.

 SH> Swarm." I'm not fond of all SF movies. I have liked Dr. Who for a long
 SH> time. I was not very fond of any of the Star Trek movies. Most of those

Oh, my, yes. Good ol' Dr. Who. Source of a wealth of FIDO taglines and some
rollicking adventures. 'Tis said that the first Doctor you see will always be
your favourite. Tom Baker was my first Doctor. But, my favourite was his
immediate predecessor, Jon Pertwee. Tom Baker is my second favourite and
Sylvester McCoy comes third on my list. Patrick Troughton, the second version
of the Doctor ranking after McCoy.

It certainly is a tenacious series - hanging on longer than any old soap opera
in the US. And outliving my favourite British comedy "Last of the Summer Wine"
which has gone under due to most of the cast dying of old age or becoming
infirm enough that the grind of making a weekly television show was beyond
hem.

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL." will forever be stuck in the American memory.
Kubrick did a fair job of presenting Art Clarke's vision. But, I enjoyed the
book (actually the whole series of books) more. Certainly it was a better
effort than the abortion that the movies made of Admiral Bob's (Robert A
Heinlein) Starship Troopers. What a travesty - all shoot-em-ups and SFX and no
story line that I could discern before walking out in the middle of the movie
... something I seldom do.

      Title: BH & G's Space Odyssey
 Categories: Breads, Kids, Pasta, Cheese, Sauces
      Yield: 1 serving

           Long thin bun
           Spaghetti sauce; warmed
      3 sl Cheddar cheese
           Cooked spaghetti
      1 sl Emmenthaler cheese
           Olive slices; garnish

  Prepare spaghetti sauce according to package instructions.
  Fill a long thin bun with sauce. Make a slit in the top
  of the bun for the Cheddar cheese to make a top fin; stick
  slice of cheddar in each side of bun. Make rocket trails
  with curls of spaghetti. Add an Emmenthaler cheese moon
  and olive slices for stars.

  You will need an adult helper.

  Makes 1 serving.
