Ärende: Welcome to the 21st century in a supposedly civilized country

RW> <rotfl> REcall that, from about the same time. WAs a bit
RW> younger but did the traveling show for the summers with
RW> bandleader signing the papers for both Musicians' union and
RW> my parents saying he'd be responsible for my conduct and
 RW> proper behavior <yeah right>.

If you had been found to be a druggy or got into some kind of trouble, he
would be held responsible as your guardian. Especially when the
authorities read that signed paper.

 RW> <snip>

RW>>> I'd get a kid dumped on me for awhile <grin>.

Sometimes I'd take them myself.

RW> Similar sort of situation, except I'm on the road all the
RW> time and my parents were the custodians at least in the
 RW> girls' younger years.

Heh. I wasn't exactly on the road all the time, but I did move around a
bit. Met a gal at a party who was from LA and spent a few days at her
place at a time. Then she moved to San Jose, so I spent a week at a time
up there. Had a spare car, so I drove it up there and left it in her care,
flying back and forth. All this while collecting unemployment. I did find
a job while I was up north, but quit when she and I split up a few months
later. That was getting to be a pain anyway, flying back and forth and
only being at home on weekends.

RW> THen they went back to their mother and some things happened to the
RW> girls that we won't go into here, but suffice it to say my parents
RW> stepped in so there wouldn't be extreme bloodshed. IT was a zoo,
RW> with one kid eventually going back to her mother's after mother's
RW> second husband was out of the picture, I would at least permit them
RW> to stay at their mother's once he was gone. YOungest went back, some
RW> disciplinary issues, my parents said no more, so she came to stay
 RW> with me.

I didn't have much to say about that sort of thing from 2200 miles away.
What their mother did was her business anyway. There was a time when my
youngest daughter was being molested by her boyfriend. That's when I made
a trip to Illinois and put my two cents worth into it. He never touched
her again, AFAIK.

Roy>>> Out of site, out of mind here.

Roy>> King and live with his girlfriend. His choice came back to bite him
Roy>> in the arse and she ended up putting him through school.

RW> YEp, they live and learn. YOungest one never did pick up on it, she
RW> moved out on her own, eldest got into some bad situations and ended
RW> up with me, and I made that offer too, but she took up with a
 RW> boyfriend instead. OH well.

My son and his live-in girlfriend were being chastised for living in sin
by her grandmother, so they decided it would be best to get married. They
were both 20. I tried to talk him out of it, but he (and she) was set on
marrying. As I predicted, it didn't last long.

RW> IT hasn't been easy for the kids either with all this. Eldest is
RW> finally settling down to a stable lifestyle, she's got some health
RW> problems, but she trains service dogs.

My oldest is 49yo now and has a nice family. He's a Continental airline
mechanic, she's now a housewife with a brood of chickens and sells eggs
while the kids go to school. Quite a difference from when she was 25.

 RW> YOungest ... I don't know, I worry a lot about her, but there's not
RW> a thing I can do for her. My parents have her son, and he's a
RW> sophomore in high school this year. AT least he's got a stable safe
 RW> environment.

My youngest is living in Florida and has a ready-made family. She doesn't
have any kids of her own. She's a big-shot for the city in which they
live, close to Okeechobee. She got her looks from her father, blonde, blue
eyed and unlike her father, a perfect figure.

Roy>> guess he gained a whole lot of respect for me, as he's still in
 Roy>> touch today.

RW> Kathy's were already grown by the time we hooked up.

Nancy's daughter, Racheal, was 10 when we got together. She and her
brother lived with their dad and visited with us on weekends. I broke the
adult/child bearer when Nancy went to the grocery store and left Rach in
the spare room (boring in there). I asked if she'd like to come out and
watch Disney cartoons and we soon became good friends. She's just now
having her first child, sometime in the next few days. She's as old now as
Nancy was when we met back in 1980.

RW> HEr grandkids figured out quickly though that Richard would
RW> endeavor to be fair, but Richard would only say no, or cease and
 RW> desist once.

I've never had to be Rach an Mike's parent...kinda like it that way. You
and Mike would hit it off as he's a muscian (had his own bands), works for
RCA in LA now. He's always reviewing new artists' work and promoting it
to DJs, etc..
