Those various politcal 'wars' aren't all that effective either.  The "War on
Poverty"
that LBJ started has spent over a trillion dollars in nearly fifty years, and
there are
more poor people in this country today than there were when LBJ started that
one.
It's been noted before that the government could GIVE every single poor person
in
this country $40,000/year (that's $160,000 for  family of four) and spend LESS
than
it does.

Ther are also more drug abusers in this country than there were despite the
government's nearly 40-year "War on Drugs," which itself has done far more
damage
to American society than the drugs themselves did.  It's also been noted that
the US
government could purchase every microgram of cocaine produced in South America
and
spend LESS than it does on its "war."
